Do you have SPArK?
LT Ball does! Mark your calendars for Thursday, March 15 for a night of SPArK
(Science, Physical education and “Art”-rithmetic for kids) at LT Ball. We will
showcase the talents of our students through their visual art displays, physical
education demonstrations and Invention Convention designs. PLUS, there will be
many fabulous and fun interactive math and science stations for you to enjoy.
We can’t wait to see you there!
Music is in the air . . . .
"The Castaways", is a musical grounded in historical fact, about a group of orphaned immigrant children struggling on the
streets of New York City in the early 1900’s. These children were literally cast away from their families because their
parents could no longer afford to feed them. Ultimately the happy endings for these “castaways” takes them to homes with
Midwestern families.
The story line is quite timely in light of our current volatile economic climate. It focuses on the problem of homelessness
and the fact that children living on the streets, homeless, hungry and alone is a problem that has historically transcended
time and generational boundaries.
Through this production we will highlight the importance of community and the power of generosity as we challenge our
students to become “Heroes” to homeless individuals living right here in the Dayton area. Join us Tuesday, March 20 at
7:00 p.m. as our talented students present, “The Castaways”
HELP WANTED:
Ms. Barnes is seeking volunteers to help with art displays for the Art Show in March. Please contact Ms. Barnes at
Special Thanks to LTPA
A very special thanks to the LTPA for their generosity in purchasing 10 additional iPads to be used directly in our
classrooms. This is one more opportunity to help prepare our students as 21 st Century learners. Thanks so much!
A Note from Food Service
Do you give your friends valentines and little heart-shaped candies on Valentine's Day? Do you ever cross your
heart when making a promise that you really, really mean? Or turn on the radio to hear a guy singing about his
broken heart? We see and hear about hearts everywhere. A long time ago, people even thought that their
emotions came from their hearts, maybe because the heart beats faster when a person is scared or excited. Now
we know that emotions come from the brain, and that the brain tells the heart what to do.
Most kids are born with a healthy heart and it's important to keep yours in good shape. Here are some things that
you can do to help keep your heart happy:

The Monthly Newsletter of
L.T. Ball Intermediate School
Remember that your heart is a muscle. If you want it to be strong, you need to exercise it. How do you do
it? By being active in a way that gets you huffing and puffing, like jumping rope, dancing, or playing
basketball. Try to be active every day!
Eat a variety of healthy foods and avoid foods high in unhealthy fats, such as saturated fats and trans
fats.
Don't smoke. It can damage the heart and blood vessels.
So now you know that your heart doesn't look like a valentine, but it sure deserves to be loved for all the work it
does. It started pumping blood before you were born and will continue pumping throughout your whole life.
