What is PIE?
Tipp City PIE stands for Parents Involved in Education. This is a combined group of Nevin Coppock
Elementary and Broadway Elementary parents and teachers. The PIE board meets monthly with Mr.
Gale Gingerich and Mrs. Rick Brownlee to discuss and plan upcoming events and student/school needs.
PIE holds several fundraising events that allow us to financially support the school and teachers.
Tipp City PIE can be found on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Tipp‐City‐
TREASURERS’ REPORT‐ Noel Winblad went over the PIE budget for the 2012/2013 school year. A copy
of the budget can be obtained by contacting tippcitypie@gmail.com. It has been decided that
Broadway will be doing the monthly pretzel sales that Nevin and LT Ball have done in the past.
For the holiday shoppe this year, both schools will do as they have in the past‐ Nevin will sell the items
that were purchased last school year with funds from the PTC (Parent/Teacher club, the name of the
previous parent group at Nevin Coppock). Broadway will continue with the company they have used in
the past. Plans for the 2013/2014 school year are for both schools to use a company.
Funfair, Broadway PALS (Parents Actively Linked in School, the previous title of Broadway’s parent
group) largest fundraiser is going to be combined for BOTH schools for the 2012‐13 school year. The
TEACHERS’ REPORTS
Heidi Silvers (3 rd grade teacher‐ Broadway)‐ Mrs. Silvers asked our treasurer to explain the procedure for
turning in receipts for PIE teacher supply gifts. Each certified staff receives $100 to spend in their
classroom. Classified staff, $50. Teachers are to turn in receipts ONE TIME that total $100. PIE will then
reimburse them with a check.
Nancy Sowder (1 st grade teacher‐ Nevin)‐ Mrs. Sowder raised the question on how PIE is going to help
with holiday parties. It was decided that if a teacher wanted assistance with getting parent volunteers,
they were to contact Christy Peters, PIE’s volunteer coordinator. They can also do it on their own if
they choose. Times for parties are to be decided.
PRINCIPALS’ REPORTS
Rick Brownlee (Nevin)‐ First grade will have a parent meeting on Monday, Sept. 17. Mr. Brownlee
explained that by Sept 30, 2012, every K‐3 student has to be assessed to see if they are on track to pass
the third grade reading test. First grade teachers will be using the assessment done at the end of
kindergarten. Second and third will also be using previous end of year testing. The school is then
equired to send a letter to parents if any child is in “danger” of failing the test. Mrs. Manes, Nevin
Coppock’s Title I reading teacher is currently ranking the first grade students to decide who will receive
Title I services. 16‐18% of first grade students will be served.
Gale Gingerich (Broadway)‐ Mr. Gingerich reiterated what Mr. Brownlee was discussing. Students who
fall below will also be receiving Title I services at Broadway with Mrs. Oldiges. Mr. Gingerich also
