The successor <strong>of</strong> Horo was Zarmayr, who 28O6;<br />

4005.<br />

proved a warlike and successful prince. He<br />

engaged in several wars with the neighbouring<br />

powers, and greatly raised the glory <strong>of</strong> the<br />

<strong>Armenia</strong>n name. During his reign happened<br />

the famous siege <strong>of</strong> Troy, and as he was an ally<br />

<strong>of</strong> the besieijed people, he went <strong>to</strong> their<br />

assistance<br />

with a large body <strong>of</strong> troops. After<br />

distinguishing himself considerably against the<br />

Grecian besiegers, he fell<br />

Achilles.<br />

This event happened in the year 2818, (or<br />

4017 according <strong>to</strong> the Septuagint,) and in the<br />

twelfth year <strong>of</strong> his government <strong>of</strong> <strong>Armenia</strong>.<br />

On the news <strong>of</strong> his death reaching his subjects,<br />

much discord arose amongst the chiefs as <strong>to</strong> the<br />

choice <strong>of</strong> his successor; and the interregnum<br />

lasted for about two years.<br />

At the expiration<br />

<strong>of</strong> this period Shavarsh the second, a lineal ^^^O}<br />

descendant <strong>of</strong> Shavarsh the first,<br />

<strong>by</strong> the force<br />

<strong>of</strong> his valour and policy, made himself king,<br />

and reigned prosperously during 43 years.<br />

At his death the sovereignty <strong>of</strong> <strong>Armenia</strong> was<br />

seized upon <strong>by</strong> Perch the first,<br />

<strong>from</strong> the tribe<br />

<strong>of</strong> Seunics, a man <strong>of</strong> great skill and courage,<br />

who, <strong>by</strong> his exploits became the terror <strong>of</strong> all<br />

the adjacent nations.<br />

In these days lived Eli,<br />

the high priest <strong>of</strong> the Jews. After a glorious<br />
