opportunity <strong>to</strong> serve his country. Khosrove,<br />

exasperated at<br />

the late defeat he had suffered,<br />

determined upon revenging himself on his foes,<br />

particularly upon the Greeks. He hastily<br />

assembled an army composed <strong>of</strong> 100,000 infantry,<br />

and 40,000 cavalry, with which he commenced<br />

the campaign. After a number <strong>of</strong> battles between<br />

him and the Greeks, a peace was agreed<br />

upon, <strong>by</strong> which <strong>Armenia</strong> became again subject<br />

<strong>to</strong> his power. He thereupon sent a prefect <strong>to</strong><br />

take possession <strong>of</strong> the government <strong>of</strong> <strong>Armenia</strong>.<br />

On the departure <strong>of</strong> the prefect <strong>from</strong> Persia,<br />

Khosrove fell ill, and as the records state,<br />

becoming enlightened <strong>by</strong> divine revelation,<br />

embraced the Christian faith, was baptized,<br />

and shortly after died, with the fullest conviction<br />

<strong>of</strong> the truth <strong>of</strong> his newly adopted religion.<br />

This event happened A. D. 579, and according<br />

<strong>to</strong> the <strong>Armenia</strong>n era 28.<br />

A. D. ."irs; Chihrvilon, seven years after the revolt <strong>of</strong><br />

era 27. Vardau, was sent <strong>to</strong> <strong>Armenia</strong> as governor, and<br />

kept the country in tranquillity for fifteen<br />

years. At this period Maurice, an <strong>Armenia</strong>n<br />

<strong>from</strong> the village <strong>of</strong> Oshakan, in the province<br />

<strong>of</strong> Aragazote, was elevated <strong>to</strong> the imperial<br />

throne at Constantinople. To this emperor,<br />

Khosrove, the Persian king, and grandson <strong>of</strong><br />

that Khosrove, <strong>of</strong> whom we have related so<br />

much, applied for protection and aid against<br />
