<strong>Armenia</strong>ns began <strong>to</strong> despair <strong>of</strong> receiving<br />

their only hopes in God ; and prepared <strong>to</strong> prosecute<br />

the undertaking they had so succesfully<br />

Yjj^ brave Vahan, seeing the success that had<br />

attended the contest with the Persians, sent<br />

messengers <strong>to</strong> the four great <strong>Armenia</strong>n tribes, the<br />

Arzrunians, the Anzevazies, the Rushtunians,<br />

and the Mockazies, some <strong>of</strong> whom had, through<br />

fear <strong>of</strong> the Persians, adopted the worship <strong>of</strong> fire;<br />

<strong>of</strong> them rejected the invitation ;<br />

inviting them <strong>to</strong> join the united party, and<br />

combat manfully for the christian church. Most<br />

two nobles, however,<br />

named Johan Anzevazie and Nerseh the<br />

Erwandunian, being well inclined <strong>to</strong> the<br />

terms<br />

<strong>of</strong> Vahan, persuaded many <strong>of</strong> their followers <strong>to</strong><br />

accompany them <strong>to</strong> join the troops <strong>of</strong> the united<br />
