He then alternately tried mildness and severity,<br />

christians <strong>to</strong> a public denial <strong>of</strong> their religion. To<br />

intimidate them, he seized four <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Armenia</strong>n<br />

nobles, and after cruelly <strong>to</strong>rturing them, put them<br />

in dungeons.<br />
