<strong>of</strong> these worthies obtained the crown <strong>of</strong> martyrdom.<br />

On the news <strong>of</strong> the conversion <strong>of</strong> these<br />

five individuals reaching Sanatruk, he invited<br />

Thaddeus <strong>to</strong> meet him in<br />

Shavarshan, and on<br />

the arrival there <strong>of</strong> the holy apostle he cruelly<br />

put him <strong>to</strong> death, <strong>to</strong>gether with his daughter<br />

Sandukht, who refused <strong>to</strong> apostatize, though she<br />

was promised her life on that condition. Many<br />

wonders were wrought at the death <strong>of</strong> Saint<br />

Thaddeus, which induced many <strong>to</strong> become<br />

believers in Christ, and courageously <strong>to</strong> suffer ^.d. so.<br />

death in the defence <strong>of</strong> their principles. At<br />

this time Bartholomew the apostle came in<strong>to</strong><br />

<strong>Armenia</strong>, bearing with him the portrait <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Virgin Mary;* and <strong>by</strong> his preaching converted<br />

numbers in Lower <strong>Armenia</strong>; amongst others<br />

Regina, the daughter <strong>of</strong> Sanatruk, with the principal<br />

<strong>of</strong>ficer <strong>of</strong> her household. When Sanatruk<br />

was informed <strong>of</strong> this he caused his sister <strong>to</strong> be<br />

seized and put <strong>to</strong> death. He also laid hands<br />

on Bartholomew, flayed him alive, and then<br />

crucified him in the city <strong>of</strong> Arevbanus, where<br />

his remains were afterwards interred. Jude,<br />

another <strong>of</strong> the apostles, also came in<strong>to</strong> <strong>Armenia</strong>,<br />

and was put <strong>to</strong> death in the city <strong>of</strong> Ormi, where<br />

he was buried. We are also <strong>to</strong>ld that some <strong>of</strong><br />
