Mike Rios<br />

Rios<br />
came to Marauder<br />
Athletics<br />
after spending<br />
the last five<br />
years as a high<br />
school counselor, the last four at Hawthorne<br />
High School.<br />
He was also the Cougars’ head boy’s<br />
basketball coach, coaching Hawthorne to an<br />
undefeated Ocean League championship in<br />
2006 and four playoff appearances in his four<br />
seasons. He was named the Ocean League’s<br />
Coach of the Year in 2004 and 2006. In his tenure,<br />
100 percent of his players moved on at least academically<br />
to four-year schools.<br />
Prior to Hawthorne, Rios was Dean/Counselor<br />
and assistant boy’s basketball coach for<br />
Daniel Murphy High School. In his two seasons<br />
as assistant coach, the Nobles played in the CIF<br />
final four both seasons.<br />
For three years he was worked as a counselor<br />
for behavior modification with autistic students<br />
for Total Education Solutions, a outsourcing<br />
organization for various school districts.<br />
He began counseling at Kennedy Elementary<br />
School in East LA.<br />
Rios spent his first three years of high school<br />
at Saint Monica, where he was manager for a<br />
boy’s basketball team that was ranked as high<br />
as third in the nation. He spent his final year of<br />
high school and graduated from Hamilton High<br />
School, where he played football for the Yankees.<br />
He received his Associate of Arts in liberal<br />
studies from West Los Angeles <strong>College</strong> and a<br />
Bachelor’s of Arts in child development with<br />
and emphasis in non-profit management from<br />
Cal State Los Angeles in 1995. He earned his<br />
Master of Arts in counseling, Marriage and family<br />
therapy option as well as his pupil personnel<br />
services credential from Cal State LA in 2003.<br />
Rios and his wife Wendy have a daughter,<br />
Karly, and a son Nicholas.<br />

Nikhil Laud<br />
begins his first<br />
season as an<br />
assistant coach<br />
for Marauder<br />
Men’s Basketball.<br />
His duties include<br />
recruiting,<br />
scouting and<br />
bench coaching.<br />
Laud spent the<br />
previous three<br />
years as an assistant<br />
coach at Cleveland High School in Los<br />
Angeles. In his first season, the team advanced<br />
to the Div. I State playoff tournament for the<br />
first time in the school’s history. Prior to that<br />
her was an assistant coach at Los Angeles High<br />
School for four years in which the program<br />
won the Northern League twice -the school’s first<br />
league titles in 20 years. During his time there, every<br />
two-year Varsity player graduated and went on<br />
to attend a four-year university.<br />
Laud graduated from Herricks High in New<br />
York where he played four years of varsity<br />
basketball and earned All-County honors twice.<br />
He graduated from Brown University in 1999<br />
with a bachelors in ethnic studies and then from<br />
UCLA in 2005 with a masters in urban education.<br />
He is married and his wife’s name is Monique<br />
Lane.<br />
