MARAUDER MEN’S BASKETBALL 2011-12 Marauders in the Playoffs Since 1990, the Marauders hosted the opening game of the regional playoffs the first ten seasons and 17 in all. In 23 years, AVC has played in 44 playoff games with a 24-20 record. The Marauders are 20-6 at home in the playoffs, 2-11 away and 2-3 at a neutral site. Jason Johnson scored 17 points to lead all. Sat., Feb. 26, 2011 13 4 Citrus Glendora L 63-88 Things went as normal in the first half with both teams taking control at various times. Then the wheels fell off for the Marauders. They would not score a field goal in the first five minutes and by then Citrus had gone on a 18-2 run. Wed., Feb. 23, 2011 13 20 OXNARD MARAUDER GYM W 100-93 OT Oxnard was shooting 75 percent in the second half with three minutes to go, but the Marauders figured a way to tie the game and send it into overtime. After that it was all Da’Shawn Gomez, who scored 32 points - 11 of those in the overtime period. Sat., Feb. 27, 2010 13 4 Irvine Valley Irvine L 63-72 The Lasers never trailed and the game never got beyond 10 points, but Irvine Valley was in charge the whole time. Donald Williams ended his Marauder career with 19 points. Wed., Feb. 24, 2010 13 20 MIRAMAR MARAUDER GYM W 74-66 The game marked the return of seven foot center De- Wayne Dedmon from a fractured bone in his forehead and he had 13 rebounds, but it was Nick Bennett’s 26 points, especially his nine for 10 free throw shooting in the last two minutes that game AVC the win. Sat., Feb. 28, 2009 13 4 San Diego City San Diego L 78-80 OT It was the second time AVC had played in overtime in the playoffs, and it was all because of a desperation heave by Nehomiah Simpkins - only his third of the season - to tie the game in regulation. To make matters worse, it was Simpkins making only his second shot of the game to win it in overtime. Raymond Cody ended his Maruder career with a 19 point, 13 rebound effort. Wed., Feb. 25, 2009 13 20 MOORPARK MARAUDER GYM W 67-47 The Marauders were tied at halftime but broke out in the second half. Kyisean Reed set a school record with seven blocks in the game. Sat., Mar. 8, 2008 10 2 Fullerton Fullerton L 64-68 This one was tied with two minutes left, but a Hornet four point play ended the Marauders’ hope of a second straight trip to state. Fri., Feb. 29, 2008 10 7 LA Southwest Los Angeles W 94-78 AVC jumped on the Cougars and wouldn’t let up, leading at one point by 35 points. Raymond Cody scored 22 points on a six for eight three point shooting night. Sun., Mar. 11, 2007 3s 1n Fresno City Fresno L 77-90 It was the first time AVC played for the state title since 1956, but the efforts of the previous three days allowed the Rams’ quick guards to penetrate and score when AVC got the score down to three. Sat., Mar. 10, 2007 3s 1s Ventura Fresno W 57-55 Marcellus Robertson pulled down 19 rebounds, but it was hit block of the Pirate’s last second shot that gave AVC their first trip to the state championship game since 1956. Thu., Mar.4, 2007 3s 2n Ohlone Fresno W 71-69 Down nine points with 4:09 left, AVC’s defense held the Renegades scoreless over the last four minutes, and Ade Dagunduro fed Marcellus Robertson for three lay-ins, including the game winner with 36 seconds left -- the first time AVC led. Sat., Mar. 3, 2007 9 17 SANTA ANA MARAUDER GYM W 76-75 Hosting because of Santa Ana’s upset of No. 1 Bakersfield, the Marauders were in trouble and down by one with eight seconds left. But Ade Dagunduro drove the length of the court, was fouled with .3 second left and swished two free throws for the win. 10
MARAUDER MEN’S BASKETBALL 2011-12 Fri., Feb. 23, 2007 9 8 Long Beach City Long Beach W 88-57 Third time around was a charm in a big way as AVC won by 31 points and won their first playoff game away from Marauder Gym in 51 years. Fri., Feb. 25, 2005 9 8 LA Southwest Los Angeles L 77-87 Fri., Mar. 12, 2004 1s 2n American River San Diego L 66-79 State semi-final game saw AVC lead after the first half, then shoot at one point 1 for 21 from the field in the second half. Sat., Mar. 6, 2004 2 3 RIVERSIDE MARAUDER GYM W 91-68 Wendell White gets 31 again, and AVC hands Riverside its biggest playoff loss to advance to the state semifinals. Wed., Mar. 3, 2004 2 7 VENTURA MARAUDER GYM W 72-55 Another 31 point game for Wendell White as the Marauders move as far in the playoffs as they did in 1997. Sat., Feb. 28, 2004 2 15 CERRITOS MARAUDER GYM W 83-69 The game was tied with 5:26 left, when AVC finished with a 16-2 run to end the game. Wed., Mar. 5, 2003 3 19 SANTA MONICA MARAUDER GYM L 77-80 Mike Webb scored 14 points in the last 44 seconds, but AVC still fell short. Sat., Mar. 1, 2003 3 30 PASADENA MARAUDER GYM W 83-71 Fri., Mar. 1, 2002 12 21 GROSSMONT MARAUDER GYM L 56-86 In their first home playoff game in three years, the Marauders are upset by Grossmont in the biggest playoff loss in Marauder history. Fri., Feb. 23, 2001 23 10 Long Beach City Long Beach L 77-82 AVC had beaten the Vikings in two previous tries, including Chelette’s first win in Long Beach. However the addition of Les Norman, who had 27 against AVC, in January spelled another AVC road loss. Fri., Feb. 25, 2000 22 11 Oxnard Oxnard L 57-68 It was the first time the Marauders had to leave home in the first round. The Condors got revenge for a 80-68 AVC win in the Oxnard Tournament earlier in the year. Wed., Mar. 3, 1999 13 4 Long Beach City Long Beach L 75-77 Up against the No. 4 seed, the No. 13 Marauders led with three minutes left but couldn’t hold on for their first away playoff win. Fri., Feb. 26, 1999 13 20 CHAFFEY MARAUDER GYM W 110-64 AVC’s biggest playoff win. Marauders set record for field goal percentage hitting 72 percent. Sat., Feb. 28, 1998 6 27 HANCOCK MARAUDER GYM L 84-87 First time AVC loses in opening round Thu. Mar. 13, 1997 2s 3n Diablo Valley San José L 73-74 AVC’s first appearance in State Tournament since 1950s.
