OUTLINE The College is seeking to appoint a full-time temporary (1.0 FTE) primary classroom teacher (Years 3-6) for the second semester of 2013 at our Stanmore Preparatory School (Wyvern House), commencing Term 3 (15 July 2013) up until the conclusion of our academic year in Term 4 (6 December 2013). We seek an outstanding classroom teacher who is committed to high standards. An ability and willingness to contribute to the pastoral care and co-curricular program will be required. B. DUTY STATEMENT FOR TEACHING STAFF<br />

The Role of the Classroom Teacher<br />

Classroom teachers at <strong>Newington</strong> <strong>College</strong> are expected to be flexible, enthusiastic, competent and dynamic team<br />

members, who actively engage in the daily life of the school, in addition to their specific responsibilities at class<br />

level. Their role will include:<br />

creating a flexible program and classroom environment favourable to boys’ learning and their personal<br />

establishing an effective rapport with students;<br />

motivating students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good educational<br />

foundation, in accordance with each student’s ability; and<br />

establishing good relationships with parents and with other staff members.<br />

guide the general development and meet the individual needs of all boys. This includes attention to<br />

health and social relationships, and the development of desirable habits and attitudes;<br />

manage a well-rounded educational program, directing groups in their classes, assisting boys individually<br />

and supervising extra-curricular activities;<br />

advise or correct boys when necessary in the classroom or on the school premises, and shall keep the<br />

Head informed concerning student behaviour management issues;<br />

plan all excursions with the Head of the Prep School. This includes completing the appropriate Risk<br />

Management Forms, provision for transportation, adult supervision, parent consent forms, time schedule,<br />

first aid kits, checking rolls on the day of the excursion, etc.;<br />

are responsible for the physical environment of the classroom spaces. This involves attention to the<br />

display, neatness and all resources;<br />

perform duties associated with textbooks, instructional supplies, equipment, student reports and records,<br />

attendance reports, stock take and upkeep of resources;<br />

prepare a comprehensive program including a day book, which shall be available for Relief teachers;<br />

immediately report all accidents to students or self, on forms supplied by the school;<br />

are required to attend and to participate actively in the Outdoor Education Program with their students;<br />

are encouraged to participate in Parents’ and Friends’ activities;<br />

report for duty on each regular school day in good time to prepare classes for that day and/or to complete<br />

before school duty routines.<br />

provide appropriate advice about the welfare and behaviour of boys in their designated area of<br />

are proactive in expecting appropriate dress standards from boys.

information and facilitate the incorporation of new ideas, as appropriate;<br />

serve on educational committees, and attend professional development meetings e.g. staff meetings,<br />

staff professional development days;<br />

are familiar with Board of Studies/School curriculum documents, appropriate to their Year level,<br />

copies of which are available from the Deputy Head of the Prep School;<br />

contribute to the implementation of curriculum improvement/development in the Prep School; and<br />

supervise ‘in class’ standardised testing, including ICAS competitions and NAPLAN tests.<br />
