Youth Advisory Group (YAG) Several Bellingen High School students participated in the Australian Government's Youth Advisory Group (YAG) on Cybersafety. YAG members have provided unique and valuable insights into cybersafety issues affecting children and teenagers and the ways these issues can be addressed from the perspective of young people themselves. Congratulations and thank you to Jasmin, Kristen, Jeremy, Katelyn and Tegan (absent from photo) for your commitment to this important program. Parents who wish to join this advisory group can call 1800 254 907 or email tap@dbcde.gov.au Frieda Gorman – Coordinator WorldVision 40 Hour Famine So far Bellingen High School has 21 socially conscious students who have signed up to do the 40 Hour Famine. This year the money raised goes directly to children in Malawi where 50% of the children do not get enough food for normal growth. The students have already raised close to $1000 which is a tremendous effort. If you google 40 Hour Famine you can go to the Bellingen High School group and sponsor one of the Bellingen High School students. The Famine is on 16 th to 18 th August so there is plenty of time for more students to help this worthy cause. Liz Hoy - Coordinator
Bullying Schools exist in a society where incidents of bullying behaviour may occur. Preventing and responding to bullying behaviour in learning and working environments is a shared responsibility of all staff, students, parents, caregivers and members of the wider school community. Bellingen High school students have all received a copy of a wallet sized card entitled "What to Do if I am Bullied" and we have a wide variety of strategies and programs running at Bellingen High school to minimise bullying. Full details of our anti bullying policy can be found on our school website. WHAT TO DO IF I AM BULLIED If I feel hurt or upset by what someone else has said, written or done. I tell a teacher or my Year Advisor OR A friend tells my teacher or Year Advisor OR I use the Bully Box in the Library OR My parent/carer contacts the School First Report Teacher will tell the bully to stop and help work out the problem. My Year Advisor and Mrs Gorman will be informed. I may want to talk to the School Counsellor Second Report Mrs Gorman or my year Advisor will help me work out a solution. The bully will be given a warning by Mrs Gorman or my Year Advisor. My parents may be involved Third Report Mrs Gorman will inform the Deputy Principal. The bully will be given a warning by the Deputy Principal I will receive continued support from teachers, Mrs Gorman, Counsellor and Deputy Principal Fourth Report or IF I AM IN DANGER Deputy principal or Principal will interview the bully. Bully may be suspended. NOTE: ALL REPORTS/ACTIONS WILL BE RECORDED IN THE BELLINGEN HIGH SCHOOL BULLYING REGISTER
