Public Education Week Awards
Congratulations to the following people on their Education Week Awards:
STAFF AWARD: Ms Annie Phelan for outstanding contribution to the Performing
Arts at Bellingen High School and in the wider community.
COMMUNITY AWARD: Ms Jenni Farrands for outstanding advocacy and
support of the Aboriginal Community.
STUDENT AWARD: Sam Vallins for excellence in promotion, publicity,
participation and support of the Bellingen High School Performing Arts.
INAUGURAL CAROL LEON AWARD: The Carol Leon Annual Aboriginal
Education Memorial Awards are a new initiative to empower and encourage
Aboriginal students to achieve and succeed in all facets of education. The awards
focus on Aboriginal students’ participation, performance and achievement
throughout the school year, recognising and acknowledging excellence in the one or
more of the key areas of leadership, attendance, literacy and numeracy, community
participation, peer support and sports. Two Carol Leon Awards were made on
Wednesday night; one secondary and one primary. We congratulate Montana
Baldwin for achieving the first ever Secondary Carol Leon Award. I am sure that
Carol would be very proud of Montana’s achievements.
New Bellingen High School Website
Thanks to all the work of Frieda Gorman and Pru Borgert, we now have a new
website. If you need any information about our school, it will be on the website.

Anti Racism Contact Officer Information
Please see pages in this Newsletter regarding what we do at Bellingen High School
if ever there is a racial grievance. For any procedure to work, we rely on students
promptly reporting their concerns. Holding it in or ignoring a problem never leads
to a solution. In fact, this can only exacerbate issues between people. The
procedures are clear and fair. Please use them. Our current ARCO is Mr Jones.
