The structure of loans during <strong>2010</strong><br />
was dominated by loans issued to<br />
enterprises, which in <strong>2010</strong><br />
represented 70.5 percent of total<br />
loans issued by the banking<br />
system (Figure 10). Household<br />
loans during the last two years<br />
have increased their share to total<br />
loans. In <strong>2010</strong>, the share of<br />
household loans to total banking<br />
system loans reached at 29.5<br />
percent, compared to 26.7 percent<br />
in 2009. This increase is mainly<br />
attributed to the fact that loans to<br />

enterprises incurred a more significant reduction of the growth rate, while the growth rate<br />
of loans to households, despite the slowdown, was more approximate to the previous<br />
periods.<br />

Households<br />
received 26.1 of total loans issued to enterprises. The agriculture sector continues to<br />
participate only with a low share,, receiving only 3.7 percent of total loans issued to<br />
enterprises (Figure 11).<br />
Loans issued to the trade sector and financial services were characterized with an<br />
increasing trend in <strong>2010</strong>, while lending to other sectors recorded a slowdown compared to<br />
the previous year (Figure 11). Reaching the amount of euro 521.6 million, loans to the trade<br />
sector marked an annual increase of 13.7 percent in <strong>2010</strong> (4.9 percent in 2009). Loans<br />
issued to enterprises that provide financial services amounted at euro 22.1 million,<br />
compared to euro 10.6 million in the previous year. Lending to the industry sector recorded<br />
a slowdown of the growth rate during <strong>2010</strong>, with loans to the manufacturing sector<br />
recording an annual<br />
growth of 5.8 percent (29.9 percent in 2009), and loans to the construction sector recording<br />
an annual growth of 22.5 percent (35.9 percent in 2009). In <strong>2010</strong>, loans issued to the<br />
manufacturing sector amounted at euro 126.8 million, that indicates a share of 12.3 percent<br />
in total loans issued to enterprises. During the same period, loans to the construction sector<br />
reached at euro 109.1 million, representing 10.6 percent of total loans to enterprises.<br />
