LVRC Track Championships Calshot, 23rd September Once again a well-supported event at Calshot Track, with several World Champions entered. The event was somewhat overshadowed by the tragic death of Brian Hawkridge in a road accident. Other reigning champions defended well, World Champion Roly Crayford inspiring some of his San Fairy Ann club-mates, and dominating three groups. If we had more support from the Regions, say £100 each contribution, we could transfer the event to Manchester Velodrome. If you all agree please reply to the organiser as soon as possible and the Velodrome can be booked for a weekend. Collins 9pts LVRC Time-trial Championships Coventry, 23rd September Road works forced a change of course, but most riders said they preferred the new one, despite the big climb up to the turn on the Daventry road. And it was a beautiful morning, warm and sunny with little wind. Most of the medals went according to class and form. Keir Maris, Glenn Longland (who’d done a 57 minute 25 the day before), Barrie Mitchell and Brian Barraclough won their categories comfortably. But hypervet Derek Hodgin put 4.40 into his nearest challenger in the Over-65s, and the mighty Roger Iddles destroyed everyone, beating his nearest challenger, Brian Sunter, by four minutes and making fastest time of the morning – and all without any fuss about funny hats. A surprise in the E cats where National Vets BAR Champion Terry Coging made a rare appearance and put 37 seconds into Mick Ives, with an unwell Ray Minovi doing no better than third in a close contest,a mere 55 seconds covering the first four.
