The Initial Phase • Key Issues: Education of the patient about depression, including reassurance and guidance, creates a sense the problems are being ―worked on‖ right away Review of symptoms – reassures the patient that they fit a pattern that is anticipated and understood (by therapist); helps pt understand that they are part of a patterned, time-limited, treatable illness.
