The borough council said this week that while the town’s traditional Thursday and Saturday market days will continue as usual throughout the festive period, there will also be three additional market days in the run up to Christmas, with more than 100 stalls to offer shoppers the chance to pick up something a bit different for a present. The local authority said it has teamed up with the Love Ormskirk campaign to bring a bit of Christmas cheer into the town, with the traders and residents’ group laying on additional attractions, including an ice rink and a continental market. Councillor Martin Forshaw, portfolio holder for Planning and Development, said: “Christmas is a very special time of year and the extra markets and parking offers are a great way to attract people into the town to do their festive shopping. “We are very happy to be working with the Love Ormskirk town team on other attractions to help make Ormskirk an even more thriving place this Christmas.” The additional markets will be held on Tuesday, December 18 and Friday, December 21, while another market will be open until 2pm on Christmas Eve. Local food and drink establishments will be selling their wares at the Love Ormskirk Food Stall. This will be by the Clock Tower between 11am and 5pm Sunday, December 9, and Sunday, December 16. It will also be open for business between 11am and 7pm on Monday, December 10 and Tuesday, December 11, and and the following Monday and Tuesday. Shoppers are also being given another early Christmas present – from Monday, December 10 they can save money when using the council’s car parks, wth visitors who buy a pay and display ticket receiving an additional two hours free parking. This special offer applies to all pay and display car parks except Two Saints Retail Park, where an hour’s free parking applies all year round. Motorists should note that the two extra free hours will not be shown on the pay and display parking ticket purchased from the machine. So, for example, if you buy a ticket at 10am for one hour’s parking the ticket will still show an expiry time of 11am. But, during the special offer period, you will be able to park until 1pm. The town’s ice rink will be open on Moor Street between 11am and 5pm on Sunday 9 December and Sunday 16th, and 11am and 7pm on Monday December 10, Tuesday 11th and Monday December 17 and Tuesday 18th. Tickets are being sold at Pandora’s Box, Premier Sports, O2, Vanilla, The Bicycle Lounge and the Love Ormskirk gazebo, which will be situated at the Clock Tower from December 7. WEST Lancashire residents can keep up to date about the winter weather using their mobile phones, the borough council has said. The local authority said it has relaunched its text alert service to keep people across the borough in the loop if any adverse or icy conditions affect council–run services, and it’s free to sign up to the messages, which are sent straight to your mobile. Councillor Ian Grant, leader of West Lancashire Borough Council, said: “We were lucky last winter, but in the two years before that we had some of the worst winter weather in decades affecting residents, businesses and council services. ”Council staff work hard to ensure they are fully www.champnews.com/pixonline You’ll fi nd thousands of local photos here Pixonline prepared should bad weather arrive.
