The tenants and residents highlighted the areas they would like to see improved with regard to property improvements and great improvements to the estate. It is unfortunate that all council three storey flats were recognised in the consultation as not an enhancement to the area. Therefore all three storey flats will be demolished, and tenants of those properties Shocked by inconsiderate drivers on borough’s roads As a new resident to Ormskirk I would like to say how shocked I am about the number of inconsiderate drivers there are around the town. I have a one year old child and, due to the fact people insist on parking their cars half up on the pavement and therefore making it impossible for a pedestrian to pass, I am finding myself having to walk down the centre of the road with the pram facing oncoming traffic. And it’s not just one or two cars parked like this. On a normal walk I’ll find four or five. And I’m also shocked at will be rehoused. All houses and Firbeck Court are saved from demolition. In fact, Firbeck Court is undergoing a work programme of external insulation which is hoped will be finished by December 15. This will greatly improve the warmth of these properties. The council has taken all the views of the residents very seriously, and continue to communicate with us in relation to improvements in the area. All houses will also receive energy efficiency improvements and local tenants will benefit from the new kitchen and bathroom programmes. PICTURE of the week A busy Botanic Road last Friday as hundreds gather to watch carol singing Churchtown pupils Jingle Lights parade through the village Code1054990 Picture by MARTYN SNAPE how many cars drive past you when you’re stood waiting to cross at the zebra crossing outside St Anne’s Primary School, completely oblivious to your presence. It’d be nice if drivers could be more aware and show some consideration to us pedestrians. Kate Lockley, Ormskirk Following on these improvements the area will benefit from new paths, lighting, and a new road. The tenants and residents look forward to all these benefits and would like to thank the consultants DPA Management, who initially worked with them to ascertain all views that are considered necessary for our estate. This work will last for possibly three to four years, and we all look forward to a modern estate which we can be very proud of. Hazel Scully and Sandra Porter, Firbeck and Findon Campaign group. www.champnews.com/pixonline I am writing on behalf of my elderly parents and our family to thank those people at Ormskirk bus station who very ably cared for my mother and for their kindness following her recent collapse at the bus station. This event happened on October 18. Unfortunately we have no specific names but my father has asked that I mention in particular the two ‘meter maids’ one of whom gave my mother her coat as she was sat on a cold floor and obtained a drink for her. The other meter maid used her cardigan as a pillow. We would also like to thank the two paramedics who attended on the day. We want Ormskirk to stay a market town How much more damage can Ormskirk Council do to Ormskirk. I have read in the Champion that the Indoor Market is to be replaced with student accommodation I have also heard that the bar next door is also required for student accommodation with shops below – how does that work? They can’t rent the shops we have in the town now. How on earth can any more empty shops help the town – oh sorry, you obviously have more charity shops in mind. The whole of Ormskirk will be student accommodation if this council has its way. Why don’t the councillors in Ormskirk take stock and realize they are wrecking our town. They all beg for votes but I am at a loss to understand what they are actually doing for residents of Ormskirk. The Brookside apartments are an absolute eyesore. How planning permission was granted to build such an ugly building in the middle of Ormskirk is beyond me. It is definitely not in keeping with the town. Surely even our council can see that. We would like Ormskirk to remain a market town. Sorry if you don’t understand the message. Obviously it is very difficult to understand because it doesn’t matter how loud we shout, you ignore us. We have empty shops and the walking area through the town centre is appalling. When the paving was put through the centre it was very poor quality. Compare it to other town centres and our Council hasn’t really cared how the centre looks. When you think of the beautiful cobbled streets they took up to create an eyesore it is heart–breaking. Our council seems only interested in ‘student accommodation’. It is time they took stock and realized the damage they are causing. I do realize that things can’t always remain the same, we have to move on but surely somebody should take responsibility for the outcome of decisions that are made. Name supplied, By email Thanks to kind meter maids The good news is that my mother has made an excellent recovery and the scar from her stitches is fading daily (thanks to the seamstress at Ormskirk Minor Injuries!) This event has brought to our attention how important this resource is to the local people and although an A&E department would be great let us pray we do not lose this. Once again many thanks to those who helped you will never know how much your compassion means to us. May God Bless you all.
