shopping boost<br />

EXTRA market days are being laid on in<br />
Ormskirk to help any West Lancashire<br />
residents needing a little inspiration with their<br />
<strong>Christmas</strong> shopping.<br />
The borough council said this week that while<br />
the town’s traditional Thursday and Saturday<br />
market days will continue as usual throughout<br />
the festive period, there will also be three<br />
additional market days in the run up to<br />
<strong>Christmas</strong>, with more than 100 stalls to offer<br />
shoppers the chance to pick up something a bit<br />
different for a present.<br />
The local authority said it has teamed up with<br />
the Love Ormskirk campaign to bring a bit of<br />
<strong>Christmas</strong> cheer into the town, with the traders<br />
and residents’ group laying on additional<br />
attractions, including an ice rink and a<br />
continental market.<br />
Katie Givens, team leader of Love Ormskirk,<br />
said: “Love Ormskirk is all about making<br />
Ormskirk more appealing so that people feel<br />
excited about their town again and<br />
consequently visit regularly.<br />
“Our <strong>Christmas</strong> plan is to offer a magical<br />
experience to visitors of Ormskirk and<br />
encouraging businesses to work together and<br />
give the people what they want such as late<br />
night openings, promotions and discounts.”<br />
The additional markets will be held on<br />
Tuesday, December 18 and Friday, December<br />
21, while another market will be open until<br />
2pm on <strong>Christmas</strong> Eve.<br />
Local food and drink establishments will be<br />
selling their wares at the Love Ormskirk Food<br />
Stall. This will be by the Clock Tower between<br />
11am and 5pm Sunday, December 9, and<br />
Sunday, December 16.<br />
It will also be open for business between<br />
Continental Market stalls in Moor Street,<br />
Ormskirk<br />
11am and 7pm on Monday, December 10 and<br />
Tuesday, December 11, and and the following<br />
Monday and Tuesday.<br />
Shoppers are also being given another early<br />
<strong>Christmas</strong> present – from Monday, December<br />
10 they can save money when using the<br />
council’s car parks, wth visitors who buy a pay<br />
and display ticket receiving an additional two<br />
hours free parking.<br />
This special offer applies to all pay and display<br />
car parks except Two Saints Retail Park, where<br />
an hour’s free parking applies all year round.<br />
Motorists should note that the two extra free<br />
hours will not be shown on the pay and display<br />
parking ticket purchased from the machine.<br />
So, for example, if you buy a ticket at 10am for<br />
one hour’s parking the ticket will still show an<br />
expiry time of 11am. But, during the special<br />
offer period, you will be able to park until 1pm.<br />
The town’s ice rink will be open on Moor<br />
Street between 11am and 5pm on Sunday 9<br />
December and Sunday 16th, and 11am and<br />
7pm on Monday December 10, Tuesday 11th<br />
and Monday December 17 and Tuesday 18th.<br />
Tickets are being sold at Pandora’s Box,<br />
Premier Sports, O2, Vanilla, The Bicycle<br />
Lounge and the Love Ormskirk gazebo, which<br />
will be situated at the Clock Tower from<br />
December 7.<br />
