The Companies 

EMUGE-FRANKEN is a company association 

which has been offering top technologies in 

the field of threading, gauging, clamping and 

milling for more than 80 years. 

Approximately 1000 employees, about 8% 

of them apprentices, are in charge of our extensive 

service range. All activities are aimed 

at optimizing our production processes in 

order to find solutions which save our 

customers time and money. 

With a tool programme that includes about 

110 000 different articles we cover a range 

that leaves nothing to be desired. 

In addition to our standard stock programme 

we are developing special tools tuned perfectly 

to each specific work case and to specific 

machine conditions, in close cooperation with 

our customers.

an elaborate quality assurance system are a

Thread Milling Technology 

The increasing use of CNC technology has 

created the basic conditions for the most 

future-oriented process for internal and 

external thread production. 

In a large number of cases, thread milling is a 

very useful alternative to thread cutting or cold 

forming of threads. It offers the following 

advantages: 

• Thread production almost independent of 

size and tolerance. 

• One tool only for both right- and left-hand 

threads. 

• No trouble with chips, because only small 

milling chips are produced. 

• No axial miscutting (overcut first threads) 

of threads. 

• Highly economic cycle times due to high 

cutting speeds and feeds. 

• Very low cutting pressure for the machining 

of thin-walled workpieces. 

• With a thriller, several machining operations 

can be realised with just one tool.

The EMUGE thread milling cutter programme

The thread milling cutters of our Gigant-ic 

series are circular thread milling cutters with 

exchangeable thread inserts for the economically 

efficient production of large and deep 

internal and external threads on modern 

CNC machines. 

MoSys is a counterbore and stepped-bore 

system for free combination which makes a 

large number of machining tasks, like drilling, 

countersinking, counterboring and threading 

in one clamping process possible. We will be

KALIMERO can be used with 

a network, and will make it easy 

for you to run the administration 

of your checking equipment on 

your own PC. 

Here are the most important functions of 

KALIMERO: 

• KALIMERO offers you the facilities for filing the 

basic data of your checking equipment, so that 

you can install and control the inspection intervals 

for all the single checking tools in your 

equipment. 

• You can control, and keep up-to-date, your own 

data, like testers, manufacturers, location of your 

equipment, tool types, checking parameters, 

measuring units etc. 

• KALIMERO offers you the setting up of calibration 

plans, as well as a simple data filing system for 

checking equipment to be inspected internally. 

• KALIMERO gives you the choice of numerous 

filter and search functions, according to 

checking tool types, decision of inspection, 

status, date, due date or location. 

• Ready-made form sheets can be used for the 

printing of checking tool lists or, depending on 

the filter used, for other purposes. 

• With the help of KALIMERO, you can install an 

automatic control system for calibration limits. 

The programme will automatically remind you 

of due calibration dates. 

• KALIMERO offers you the checking data 

exchange with our own calibration lab. 

DECOM Calibration Laboratory inside the 

EMUGE company building 

EMUGE can offer you a comprehensive service 

programme for the calibration of your gauges by 

our cooperation partner DECOM UGK GmbH, an 

independent DKD calibration laboratory with its 

seat inside the EMUGE company building. 

DECOM UGK GmbH is a test laboratory for 

threads and other geometric dimensions in 

accordance with EN/ISO/IEC 17025, which has 

been accredited by DKD (German Calibration 

Service) since 1998. 

This means that the technical measuring equipment, 

the personnel and the ambient conditions 

are subject to the observation and control of 

PTB (Physikalisch-Technische-Bundesanstalt).

EMUGE offers you a comprehensive programme 

of holders for threading tools, like

No matter what kind of tool you want to clamp, 

we have the perfect solution. Depending on the 

application case and its special requirements, 

our holders are fitted out with the necessary 

performance features.

For the adaptation of your taps and cold-forming taps in 

quick-change adapters, we can offer you a broad range of 

quick-change adapters for shanks with DIN, ISO or ASME 

specifications; similar tools are available for the clamping of 

your DIN or Elastik dies.

Tapping attachments of our GRN-NC and SWITCH-MASTER ® 

series are made for the production of right-hand threads on 

CNC-controlled machine tools. 

Thanks to the integrated change gear, the sense of rotation 

of the machine spindle does not need to be changed for 

reversing the tool, which permits enormous time savings due 

to shorter cycle times, and saves the machine spindle itself by 

allowing it to keep up a constant right-hand rotation. 

In addition, the best possible tool life is obtained easily, and 

power consumption is kept low due to a nearly constant flow 

of current.

Tool Clamping 

For the high-precision clamping of milling tools, 

FRANKEN can offer you a wide range of 

• Shrink-fit chucks 

• Milling chucks for tool shanks with driving flat 

• Holders for screw-in milling cutters 

• Holders for shell-type milling cutters 

• Collet chucks 

Extremely narrow production tolerances and 

high concentricity are only a few of the quality 

features of these high-precision holders.

SFM-L-IR 

Before the background of our Quality Assurance 

policy, we can offer you two tool monitoring 

systems for safer production processes. 

Both systems, the infra-red monitoring system 

SFM-L-IR and the tool monitoring system DDU4, 

make sure that in your production everything 

runs smoothly. 

DDU4

The induction shrink-fit work station SHRINK-MASTER 

permits the quick shrinking and un-shrinking of solid 

carbide and HSS tools with straight shank in specially 

made shrink-fit chucks. 

In comparison with conventional clamping techniques, 

shrink-fitted tools can transmit 2 to 4 times higher 

torque values. The excellent concentricity of chucks 

and tools guarantees long tool life and narrow 

tolerances on your workpiece. 

The clamping system PGR “powRgrip ® ” is a 

mechanical alternative to thermal shrink-fit and 

hydro-expansion chucks, and is suitable for the 

clamping of both solid carbide and HSS tools. 

As opposed to shrink-fit technology, there are 

no heat-related structural changes on the tool 

holder. The PGR system permits safe clamping 

in tolerance h9 (type PGR-GB) or h6 (type PGR) 

and shows extraordinary performance in the 

enormous torques it can transfer, as well as 

in its excellent concentricity characteristics. 

A special feature for pre-setting the tool is 

integrated in each collet.

Workpiece Clamping 

If you want to clamp your workpieces with a 

true-to-the-µ repetitive accuracy we are the 

right partner for you. By far the majority of our 

clamping tools are designed especially for 

specific work applications; this means that we 

have to take all the specific details of the case, 

like machine connection, work processes and 

the required degree of accuracy, into account. 

For each single work case, a decision must be 

made which of the possible clamping systems 

will yield the best economic efficiency.

After the first contact with the customer, and 

his description of the task to be performed, we 

set up a constructional drawing which takes 

into account all the basic details of the work 

case, e.g. the machine conditions, the requirements 

regarding precision etc. These solutions 

are worked out by experienced construction 

technicians on our top modern CAD system. 

It is only after the customer has approved of 

all the details that we produce the clamping 

tool for him and send it to him for a final 

acceptance on location.

System SP 

Thanks to its extremely high precision where concentricity is 

concerned, our system SP is used not only for workpiece, 

but also for tool clamping. 

System SZ 

Our system SZ is used whenever the workpiece to be clamped 

has only a short clamping base or when the diameter 

to be clamped has a very large tolerance. 

System SG 

Our system SG is used whenever larger tolerances in the 

expansions have to be bridged. 

System SH 

Our hydraulic clamping system SH is used whenever construction 

space is severely limited. It also permits the clamping of long, 

thin-walled workpieces or of several workpieces simultaneously. 

System SM 

The diaphragm clamping system SM permits the clamping of a 

gear wheel in the pitch line, and the machining of the shaft bore.

Milling Technology 

FRANKEN has been busy developing milling 

tools since its foundation, and today there is an 

accordingly broad range of milling cutters of solid 

carbide and HSS to show for it. Our programme 

includes end mills, slot drills, die-sinking cutters, 

shell end mills, gear cutters, and the most 

sophisticated special profile milling cutters. 

With this large variety of tool types and cutting 

materials, with its high standards and its uncompromising 

precision, our product range of milling 

cutters will answer to the most unyielding quality 

requirements.

In addition to our standard programme, we 

produce 

• Solid carbide milling cutters for dry 

machining and hard machining. 

• FRANKEN TOPLINE tools with special 

cutting materials for difficult materials, 

available ex stock in 5 different lengths.

As a special offer for the die and mould industry, 

FRANKEN has developed a complete new 

programme of milling cutters which includes end 

mills, screw-in and shell-type milling cutters with 

carbide inserts as well as extra long solid carbide 

ball nose and torus cutters. In order to round off 

this milling cutter programme, we have built up a 

comprehensive system of adapters, reducing tools 

and clamping chucks.

1920 Foundation of “Präzisionswerkzeugfabrik Richard Glimpel, Lauf a.d. Peg.” with four employees. 

Production of thread cutting tools in large sizes according to the contemporary Bavarian standards for 

the construction of locomotive boilers. Otto Moschkau joins the company as commercial manager, the 

company is renamed into “Präzisionswerkzeugfabrik Moschkau und Glimpel, Lauf a.d. Peg.”.
