Thank you for considering Enabling Technologies for your

occasional letter or 10,000 copies of a magazine, we have just

In addition to our traditional paper embossers, we also
manufacture a commercial Braille plate making machine, a
special Braille sign making machine and products for Braille
labeling. With over fifteen models, we offer the broadest selection
of products available from any manufacturer.
We have been making Braille production equipment since
1971, when we introduced the world’s first commercially
available Braille embosser. Some of today’s employees have been
with us for over twenty years, and our average employee has been
with us for eight. Enabling Technologies’ equipment is part of the
production of every Braille book from the United States Library
of Congress. We’re proud of our long track record making the
highest quality Braille production equipment available anywhere

Thomas
Thomas Pro
The Thomas Series of single-sided embossers are named in honor of our late board chairman
and co-founder William A. Thomas. The embossing speed of the Thomas Series is 40 characters
per second. This translates to over 150 braille pages per hour when using a 40 character line and

embosser. If your needs require the production of
high volumes of braille on one side of the page then
the Marathon might be the right embosser for you. The Marathon can
emboss up to 42 braille characters per line on continuous form, tractor drive,
braille paper. The embossing speed of the Marathon is a blistering 200 characters
per second. That’s an entire page every five seconds or 700 braille pages per hour,

The Bookmaker is our lowest cost, double-sided, commercial production
braille embosser designed for the mid to high volume category. In addition to
producing top quality braille, the Bookmaker also embosses industry standard,

Braille Express 100 Braille Express 150
Braille Express offers all the standard features of the Bookmaker at a higher
embossing speed of 100 or 150 characters per second. In production, we estimate that a
Braille Express 100, used for five hours a day, can produce about 350,000 Braille pages
in a year. The Braille Express 150, can produce about a half-million Braille pages in a year.

The BraillePlace is our highest volume,
double-sided, commercial braille embosser
and can emboss up to 45 braille characters
per line on continuous form, tractor drive,
braille paper at speed exceeding 300
characters per second. That’s an entire
interpoint page every seven seconds, or
over 1,000 pages per hour. BraillePlace
offers serious productivity for serious Braille
publishing. It uses the same keypad controls
as all our other embossers, and includes ET
Speaks to vocalize controls.
BraillePlace is large–58 inches high (147.3
cm) – and it requires a 230 volt electric line.
We also ask that BraillePlace customers send
a mechanically inclined trusted staff member
to our plant for some brief training on how to
keep BraillePlace at peak productivity.

Before we developed the PED-30
around 1980, the world’s Braille printing
houses produced plates for Braille presses
literally by hand. One error, and the
whole plate had to be redone. The PED-30
revolutionized volume Braille production
by making it possible to make zinc master
plates from computers. Plates from the
PED-30 go onto a specially modified
commercial printing press, which stamps
the dots into the paper. Today, plates
from the PED-30 regularly produce
millions of pages of Braille world-wide,
including every sheet of Braille produced
for the US Library of Congress’ huge stock
of Braille books and periodicals.

Duxbury Braille Translator (DBT)
DBT is so simple to use beginners can learn it in just
minutes. Yet its depth, power and accuracy are such that
it is used by major braille production centers around
the world. In addition to English, DBT supports
contracted and uncontracted translation of
literary text in dozens of other languages.
If your needs include the production of
braille mathematics, DBT is the solution for
you. Using popular software programs such as
Scientific Notebook from MacKichan Software or
with MathType by Design Science installed in Microsoft
Word, you can easily enter your mathematical formulas and equations. Once you create
the desired mathematical presentation, simply open your saved work directly in DBT and
translate it into braille.
With DBT you can create highly accurate Braille for school books and teaching materials,
office memos, bus schedules, personal letters, signs compliant with the Americans with
Disabilities Act (ADA), as well as for countless other applications.
