My PASSION Magazine

Everyone has a passion. Everyone has a story. Everyone has a voice. And everyone wants to be heard. Because of this, “My Passion Magazine” was birthed. Each article that is written on these pages are articles from the heart. Stories that needed to be heard. Stories that will inspire you. Stories that will make you laugh, but there may be some a little sad. Some will add a little understanding to your life that you may not have had before. Some may add a few calories to your body but some will discuss how to get rid of them. All in all they are stories of someone’s passion. Each writer has contributed these articles so that others will be encouraged. I want to thank each writer for their hard work in putting their passion on paper.

"Networking 101"
The Importance of Networking
Chi Chi Okezie
Believe it or not, we operate in networks. An employee working for a company has a network. Their network
includes their co-workers, their boss, their clients/customers, their vendors etc. A student at a university has a
network. Their network is comprised of their classmates, professors, deans, university president and alumni. Thus,
networking may not be natural, but it is normal. As a matter of fact, networking can be extremely significant, and
when done properly, can yield amazing results. Listed below are my top 5 reasons why you should jump on the
networking band wagon (if you are not already on it).
Networking develops your skills.
Networking adds value.
As you are out and about meeting new people and
attending events, you are developing your communication
skills. You are improving your presentations
skills, as well. Networking involves explaining who
you are, what you do and how well you do it. It
also involves building relationships and a network
or support system. This is key in your personal or
professional advancements.
Once you determine your purpose for networking, you
can become an added value. You can actually be a
solution provider or offer help to others. If you are a
seasoned working professional, you can be a mentor. If
you are an investor, you can provide financial support
to businesses or companies. If you are a certified coach
or counselor, you can provide advice and direction to
others.
Networking provides opportunities.
Networking is a lifestyle.
It does not matter which industry you represent,
networking allows you insight to opportunities. It
can provide a lead for an interview, an introduction
to a decision maker or a referral for a potential
client. Once you have decided your purpose
for networking, you can create a plan to reach that
particular goal.
Networking works best when it is long term. The key
is to be consistent with it. Your goals and ambitions
may change as your grow, develop and live life, but you
should continue to network. As you are incorporating it
into your habits and practices, it becomes an incredible
tool for success.
Networking saves time and money.
Depending on how strategic you are, networking can
be time and cost effective. It can provide resources
and information which can improve your bottom
line. It can also be an excellent time management
tool. Many people use networking to find new business
or professional partners or sponsors for their
endeavors.
