April 2010 O p t o m e t r i c Society Reports Central Missouri Optometric Society Trustee: Jeffrey M. Gamble, O.D. The Central Missouri Optometric Society met in February at Chris McD’s Restaurant in Columbia. The program was sponsored by Inspire Pharmaceuticals and the featured lecturer was Dr. Lynsey Bigheart from Tulsa, Oklahoma. Those in attendance shared a great meal and took home some useful clinical pearls! The COS did not meet in March, but plans on providing a warm reception for our MOA president during his visit at 6:30pm on April 27 at Jina Yoos in Columbia. All MOA and COS members are invited to attend the MOA Presidential meeting. Greater Ozark Optometric Society Trustee: Scott M. Burks, O.D. At our last meeting held in February, we were pleased to host Dr. Ryan Powell, MOA President, and Dr. LeeAnn Barrett, MOA Executive Director, for our GOOS Presidential visit. We are planning our next meeting in late May and hope to announce a corporate sponsor for the meeting. All MOA and GOOS Society members are invited to attend. Kansas City Optometric Society Trustee: Melanie Linderer, O.D. At the beginning of April, we had a wonderful presentation by Dr. Brett King concerning glaucoma. In May, Dr. John Gelvin will be providing CE, and in June, we will have our annual “thank you” BBQ for the legislature. Northeast Optometric Society Trustee: Mindy Blackford, O.D. The NEOS met on February 25 at Los Jimadores Mexican Restaurant in Macon, MO. We discussed the upcoming elections, and members volunteered to be keypersons to the candidates for the $50 in 2-day campaign. Other topics discussed included Board Certification, EMRs and the current Medicare situation. The NEOS also held a society meeting on April 7 at the Pear Tree in Bevier. Guests were MOA President, Dr. Ryan Powell, and MOA Executive Director, Dr. Lee Ann Barrett. They updated us on the current events in Jefferson City and Washington DC.
