US PRESIDENT
BARACK OBAMA
STILL BELIEVES THAT
THE BEST WAY TO
REACH A
COMPROMISE IS A
TWO-STATE
SOLUTION.
White House Spokesman Josh Earnest’s
emphasized that the US President Barack
Obama still believes the best way to compromise
is a two-state solution. This statement
indicates that the dissent will remain
in the next term. Stating that he does not
recognize the Palestine state and does not
accept the two-state solution, Netanyahu’s
different attitude towards the USA and UN
may bring completely different solutions
and consensus ways into question.
USA AND THE MIDDLE EAST: CONTINUITY
PRINCIPLE IN THE STRATEGIC ALLIANCE
As is known, it might be said that the US
administration has a positive attitude
towards compromise which will eliminate
the concerns about Iran’s producing nuclear
weapons in the negotiations between
Iran and the ‘P5+1’ countries. The Tehran
administration rejects the claims that they
are planning to produce nuclear weapons,
and demands lifting the embargo urgently
which have been placed by the West for
many years. Perhaps the most concerning
issue for the Obama administration is a
possible breakout in the case of the USA’s
engagement into a war by Israel’s side
against Iran. In 2015, a 3 billion dollar-military
aid package was sent to the Congress
for Israel. It is known that the White House
preserves Israel’s ‘primus inter pares’ (first
among equals) position in the balance of
power of the Middle East. Obama administration
also gives some new roles to Tehran
in the Turkey-Egypt-Saudi Arabia-Israel
balance in the Middle East region.
“With his speech, Netanyahu insulted the
intelligence of USA which is a party in the
nuclear negotiations with Iran” said Nancy
Pelosi, Democratic Party minority leader of
US House of Representatives. After the
visit of Netanyahu, 47 senators, who are
members of the Republican Party, sent a
letter to Iranian leaders, stating that the
new President who will replace Barack
Obama in two years may repeal the agreement
with the Tehran government. This
letter and statement unearthed a doubt
questioning the magnitude of the crisis
about the relations with Iran within the
framework of the International Law on
Treaties.
In conclusion, regarding Obama’s statement
about the visits made by Netanyahu
will not give a permanent damage to the
relationship, and we can say that the crisis
has become manageable now. At this point,
