CHAPTER 10: TECHNICAL CRITERIA<br />

10.11 Electrical<br />

Safety of the children and expansion of future electrical needs must be<br />

considered. All data, equipment, and communication requirements must<br />

be defined in advance to prevent inadequate facilities. Consult with GSA<br />

and center staff when defining needs.<br />

10.11.1 Requirements:<br />

Provide power supply as prescribed in the latest edition of GSA Facilities<br />

Standards for the Public <strong>Building</strong>s Service for TV, VCR, AV equipment,<br />

telephones, and computers for staff and children’s areas.<br />

� Except in areas with cabinets above counters, mount receptacles at<br />

1370 mm above the finished floor. All receptacles shall be pediatric<br />

type.<br />

� Provide wall duplex outlets at approximately 4000 mm on center.<br />

� Provide one duplex outlet per wall on walls less than 3000 mm.<br />

� Provide electrical power outlets for kitchen and laundry areas for refrigerator,<br />

oven, range, freezer, convection oven, microwave oven, garbage<br />

disposal, and washer/dryer units as required. Provide power supplies<br />

where under counter appliances will be located.<br />

� Install closed circuit TV camera(s) at each entrance/exit and at play<br />

yards as determined by the GSA security risk analysis.<br />

� Provide for a possible additional monitor location in the staff area.<br />

� Coordinate requirements and provide for installation of: electrically<br />

switched doors, security alarm, and intercom systems.<br />
