In <strong>the</strong> past, Litija was known as a river port. In addition to<br />

coal m<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g, timber-raft<strong>in</strong>g was <strong>the</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>ession <strong>of</strong> our ancestors<br />

as far back as Prehistoric times. The biggest ships sail<strong>in</strong>g<br />

down <strong>the</strong> river were named tombas. You will learn more on<br />

this topic <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Museum <strong>of</strong> River Traffic, Coal M<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g and <strong>the</strong><br />

Railway.<br />

After an <strong>in</strong>terest<strong>in</strong>g presentation <strong>of</strong> river traffic and transport<br />

on <strong>the</strong> Sava River, cont<strong>in</strong>ue with your trip to Breg pri Litiji. In<br />

a fire station you can visit a permanent exhibition <strong>of</strong> Sava<br />

stones <strong>of</strong> pebbles, which is unique <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> rest <strong>of</strong> Europe.<br />

The stones were <strong>for</strong>med dur<strong>in</strong>g 400 million years <strong>of</strong> turbulent<br />

geological history <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> whole Sava bas<strong>in</strong>.<br />

After all <strong>the</strong> excitement <strong>of</strong> this day you can end your trip on<br />

<strong>the</strong> nearby Paternoster farm, where you will be served some<br />

excellent dairy products. You can have a meal <strong>in</strong> Kimovec Inn<br />

<strong>in</strong> Zg. Hotič or <strong>in</strong> Berdajs Restaurant <strong>in</strong> Sava pri Litiji.<br />

A tip <strong>for</strong> a two day-trip: You can stay overnight <strong>in</strong> Kum Inn<br />

<strong>in</strong> Zagorje and set out <strong>the</strong> next day, look<strong>in</strong>g <strong>for</strong> some new<br />

adventures along <strong>the</strong> Sava River. The road runn<strong>in</strong>g along<br />

<strong>the</strong> river will take you to Radeče where you can visit <strong>the</strong> old<br />

town centre. In <strong>the</strong> afternoon you can jo<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> rafters from<br />

Radeče <strong>for</strong> some timber-raft<strong>in</strong>g along <strong>the</strong> Sava River.<br />

In a two-hour ride down <strong>the</strong> river you will experience <strong>the</strong><br />

story <strong>of</strong> raft<strong>in</strong>g and <strong>the</strong> Rafters’ baptism. To top it all, you will<br />

taste a rafter’s meal. If you decide to take this tour, <strong>the</strong>n you<br />

will f<strong>in</strong>d accommodation <strong>in</strong> Litija <strong>in</strong> Kovač Restaurant or<br />

<strong>in</strong> Podkum.<br />
