Cont<strong>in</strong>ue on to village Križ and walk up to <strong>the</strong> rema<strong>in</strong>s <strong>of</strong> a 16 th<br />

century castle overlook<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> village. The castle burnt down dur<strong>in</strong>g<br />

World War II. Accord<strong>in</strong>g to some records, <strong>the</strong> build<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> this<br />

castle united <strong>the</strong> noble families from Kamnik and Križ and was <strong>for</strong><br />

centuries <strong>the</strong> home to noble families such as Thurn, Auersperg<br />

and Apfaltrern. The hilltop castle <strong>of</strong>fers spectacular views over<br />

large fields, meadows and <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Križ pond (Kriški bajer), which<br />

is <strong>the</strong> next stop. If you happen to have a fish<strong>in</strong>g rod with you, you<br />

can fish carp, pike and catfish from <strong>the</strong> pond. Later on, you can<br />

also stop <strong>in</strong> Križ <strong>for</strong> an excellent meal at Čubr Restaurant.<br />

Let’s move on! Off to Gmajnice to meet Kremžar <strong>the</strong> potter,<br />

who will be happy to show you how to <strong>for</strong>m clay on a potter’s<br />

wheel and tell you an <strong>in</strong>terest<strong>in</strong>g story from <strong>the</strong> past. Kremžar<br />

is an excellent craftsman and he has managed to preserve <strong>the</strong><br />

once flourish<strong>in</strong>g pottery craft that was widespread <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> area<br />

<strong>of</strong> Komenda as well as <strong>in</strong> some o<strong>the</strong>r villages such as Podboršt,<br />

Gora and Križ.<br />

Follow an uphill trail to Mlaka. Not long ago a pottery company,<br />

well known throughout entire <strong>Slovenia</strong>, processed clay here and<br />

produced bowls, pots and <strong>for</strong>ms known as potičnice <strong>for</strong> bak<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>the</strong> traditional Slovene sweet potica.<br />

Keep pedall<strong>in</strong>g on to Tunjice. There is a 5 kilometre long macadam<br />

road ahead. You might want to stop along <strong>the</strong> way and<br />

watch RC model cars competitions. Once you arrive <strong>in</strong> Tunjice<br />

and see <strong>the</strong> bell towers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> picturesque St. Anne’s Church<br />
