RFMS: End of Sale Announcement
PMB1958: End of Sale of RFMS and Transition to ADSP
1. Transition Overview
With the release of ADSP 8.1 device firmware support and features have exceeded those available in RMFS
3.x. Going forward all network management opportunities should be positioned with ADSP infrastructure
management. ADSP will provide a superior toolset for customers with Infrastructure management needs.
By reducing the administrative overhead customers can expect a lower TCO for running both legacy and
new Wi-Fi networks. Existing customers who maintain current support contracts on RFMS will continue to
have the option to migrate to ADSP as documented in PMB1798.
AirDefense Services Platform Introduction –
The Motorola AirDefense Services Platform (ADSP) offers 24x7 Wireless Intrusion Prevention (WIPS),
network assurance tools, and multi-vendor WLAN infrastructure management. These toolsets are
seamlessly integrated into a single console to simplify operating and securing wireless networks. The
platform provides organizations with a cost effective and simplified way to fully customize their wireless
management and monitoring solutions to meet organizational needs or industry requirements.
3. Accessories and Peripherals: Transition Timeline and Mapping Table
The purpose of this section is to define the level of support available to current RFMS 3.x customers with
support agreements. Motorola’s support organization will continue to provide customers with support
agreements with telephone and e-mail technical support for installation, configuration, and basic
troubleshooting questions.
However, customers whose issues require further development will need to upgrade to the current ADSP
version as engineering support will end on September 1, 2011. This means that no further development, bug
fixes, patches, maintenance releases, etc. will be available for customers with the RFMS 3.x product.
Current RFMS 3.x customers under RFMS 3.x support contract will be able to upgrade to ADSP with WLAN
management licenses. RFMS 3.x customers who do not have a support contract will be able to purchase
WLAN Management support contract for ADSP allowing them to upgrade to WLAN management licenses.
Once they have purchased the WLAN Management support contract they will be allowed to upgrade to the
ADSP with WLAN management licenses equivalent number of RFMS 3.x licenses. WLAN management
licenses will be required for each managed device including AP’s and Switches. Please see PMB#1798 for
further details
4. Service and Support: End of Service Life Policy
Motorola Solutions, Inc. (“Motorola”) will provide service and support for products manufactured by Motorola
for a period of three (3) years, commencing on the last day of the software product’s final shipment.
Motorola will make reasonable, commercial attempts to continue to repair products beyond the five-year
period at Motorola’s option:
• To meet contract commitments
• Where a significant commercial requirement is identified
• Where Motorola judges that there is sufficient commercial reason to warrant continuance of repair
and support
Should technology used in the product become discontinued, obsolete, or no longer available in the public
domain, making parts or assemblies no longer available for these reasons, Motorola at its discretion will
evaluate the impact and if significant, consider the feasibility and economics of a design change to enable
continued repair.
The End of Service Life period may be changed at Motorola’s sole discretion.
5. Software Support and Entitlement Process
As of January 1, 2010, customers will not be entitled to receive telephone or e-mail technical support for
hardware or software issue diagnosis if their products are not covered under warranty or covered by an
Enterprise Mobility Services agreement.
Customers are required to have a valid Motorola Enterprise Mobility Services agreement in place to receive
software support, which includes technical telephone and e-mail support and the ability to download and use
software releases. Customers will need to provide product information when initiating their support requests,
including the serial number of the product configuration(s) for which they require software.
Requests to download software releases are completed by submitting the “Request Download” form on
Support Central or by calling the Motorola Enterprise Mobility support center. The information will be routed
directly to a dedicated team that will quickly validate customer entitlement. Customers will then receive an e-
mail containing instructions on how to download the appropriate software.
Customers who wish to purchase an Enterprise Mobility Services agreement can do so through the normal
channels that they currently use to purchase Motorola products and services.
