Candy-Gram!
Dear Carlson Family,
So far March has been a
whirlwind of positive activity
for me! First was 10 days
on the road in the Pink
Cadillac visiting units in Indianna,
Illinois, and Missouri.
Then an exciting 24
hours at Career Conference
in Columbus, Ohio where we
were the only Elite Family
and the Carlson unit was #8
at the Conference! Jenna
Larson, my gorgeous daughter
debuted on-stage! What a
thrill to have Sr. NSD Debi
Moore, my former adopted
director, administer her oath!
1. Many thanks to the Illinois
and Missouri directors
for welcoming me
earlier this month! Details
of my trip are in
Notes from Executive National Sales Director Anita Mallory Garrett-Roe
Love Notes & News!
“Newly hatched ducklings IMPRINT on the first ACTIVITY
they see. So do New Consultants! Be sure that activity is a
PARTY! ——— Executive NSD Anita Mallory Garrett-Roe
As an Elite Executive Senior Sales Director, I (Candy) am privileged at
Leaderships to have a private conference with a Top National Sales Director. In
January of 2010 my conference was with Anita Mallory Garrett-Roe. What a thrill
it was to sit eye-to-eye with one of our company’s legends! Anita was already a
National Sales Director when I joined the company in 1978, so imagine the years
of experience she brings to the conference table!
Here is some of her advice:
1. She encouraged ALL of us to understand that a New Consultant is like a baby
duckling, and she will IMPRINT on the activity she sees in you, her recruiter,
and the unit as a whole. MAKE SURE THAT ACTIVITY IS PARTIES NOT FACES.
2. Anita says we have only the FIRST FOUR WEEKS OF ‘COMPLIANCE’ within which
to teach them to say, “Sorry, I only do groups, but you can come with me to my
next group event on _______” when they are faced with a request for a oneon-one
facial.
3. Anita reminds us that “Anybody can book 8 parties.” and to move Heaven and
Earth to see to it that every new consultant does that.
4. Anita encouraged EVERY UNIT IN OUR FAMILY to “Raise the amount of selling”
through . . . A) Parties and B) teaching “Upselling”
5. Anita admonished us to NEVER RECRUIT “PERSONAL USE” CONSULTANTS!
6. In fact, she suggested that we change our Recruiting Approach to this: “You’d
be such a great director because . . . Let me show you what the directors and
nationals are earning.” That way, she pointed out, “even the weakest person
in the organization is still recruiting Leadership quality people.”
I’m sure these items of her advice are ones we are all willing to act upon
immediately. Her most emphatic piece of advice was to build a unit of PARTY
HOLDERS, not facial holders and definitely not personal use consultants. I assured
her that the Carlson Family has heard her loud and clear!
Special Note to First Line Directors: Anita asked me to “get in the driver’s seat” and
encourage YOUR key people! If you give me permission to do that and suggest who they
are, I will do so and I promise to “copy” to you all email and regular mail correspondence as
well as report all phone conversations.
Notes from National Sales Director Margaret Bartsch
“You are the Bucket of Water on Negativity and the
Bucket of Gasoline on Support.”
————— -NSD Margaret Bartsch
I was visiting my friend, Sr. Sales Director Meta Jackson, in the Atlanta, GA
area during the Spring of 2008 when she introduced me to National Sales Director
Margaret Bartsch. Imagine my surprise when Margaret said we had already met!
She was a DIQ with a visiting unit during our Carlson Fall Retreat of 1994! She
said she still had the notes from my class!
So, there I was, faced with LIVING PROOF of Mary Kay’s adage that “If you
don’t do it, the girl next to you will!”
This past Leadership Conference in San Diego, I was part of a Small Group
Discussion in the Executive Senior Director Class that was led by Margaret. Here
are the notes from that session:
1. Margaret recommended reading Joyce Myers’ book on Managing Your Emotions
2. Learn to manage your emotions so that when you get rejected, which you will,
you can handle it.
3. She encouraged us to use Weekly Tracking Sheets because “Numbers take the
emotions out” of the business
4. She reminded us that we will be “Flying Alone” sometimes as we work toward
our hearts’ desires, feeling abandoned by family, girlfriends, and other directors
and consultants.
5. Therefore we must have RESOLVE. Make up your mind to the goal and the
result so that before a situation ever happens to shake it, you are prepared.
6. We carry the VISION when no one else does.
7. Create a COMMUNITY like Gloria Banks does.
8. Phrases to REMOVE from our lexicon include “You should . . .” and
“You have to . . . “
9. QUESTIONS are the ANSWERS when in discussion with someone seeking advice.
Think of ourselves as COACHES who do not have all the answers. WAIT to
speak. (Ask “Why am I talking?”)
10. Provide outstanding group training, because you can only COACH someone
who has been TRAINED PRIOR.
11. DON’T GIVE UP!!!!
