Welcome to Swinburne University
of Technology, Sarawak Campus!
2009 is Swinburne’s one hundred
and first year of providing real-life
education and research programs
aimed at preparing our graduates
to get good jobs and to be able to
make an immediate impact on the
economy and the culture wherever
they live. We are determined to
make the next hundred years even
better than the first.
2009 also sees the next stage of
the major development of the
Kuching campus completed, giving
Swinburne world-class, state-ofthe-art
classrooms, laboratories,
and computer facilities, as well as
recreational facilities such as a
multi-purpose sports and
gymnasium facility in this exciting
part of the world. Everything is
now in place for working, studying
and enjoying student life.
As a branch campus university in
Malaysia, we offer identical
degrees to those offered in
Australia and we award the same
Australian testamur - just as if you
were studying in Australia.
Currently we offer courses in
engineering, business, IT,
multimedia, and starting this year,
science and design.
This course guide has been
designed to assist you in finding
details about the courses available
at the Sarawak branch campus
that range from foundation to
postgraduate programs.
We offer you a choice of either
completing your program locally
with us at the Sarawak campus or
in one of the campuses in
Melbourne, Australia. Since the
courses and subjects are the same,
you are able to transfer to or from
Australia/Malaysia at the end of
any semester - subject to obtaining
the appropriate visa from the
relevant government.
The branch campus university in
Sarawak is a partnership between
Swinburne University of Technology
in Australia and the State
Government of Sarawak, operating
through its two foundations,
Yayasan Sarawak and the Sarawak
Higher Education Foundation.
Already we have students from
more than 30 countries as well as
Malaysians studying in Sarawak.
Here you can obtain a quality
Australian degree from a 101-yearold
university at a fraction of the
Australian cost. To ensure the
comparability of our degrees
whether you study in Australia or
Malaysia, we have extensive quality
assurance and enhancement
mechanisms in place and you will
encounter Australian, Malaysian and
other international staff.
The courses offered are designed to
prepare graduates to live and work
in a world in which professionals
need to be capable of high levels of
international interaction. A
Swinburne education emphasises
the development of the skills
graduates need to gain employment
or to go out and set up a new
venture to provide self-employment
and eventually to employ others!
This course guide concentrates on
courses that can be studied
completely in Sarawak. For some
Swinburne courses that are not yet
offered totally in Sarawak, students
can complete one or two years in
Sarawak and then transfer to
Australia. Please ask our staff if you
