Quality assurance
A Swinburne degree
has the same high
standards whether you
graduate in Melbourne
or Kuching.
Quality assurance is the way
in which Swinburne ensures
these high standards are
maintained. To emphasise the
role of quality assurance,
Swinburne has appointed a
senior academic as Director
of Quality Assurance to
oversee all aspects of quality
control.
Quality assurance
Our quality assurance processes start
with having Melbourne and Kuching
lecturers as part of the same teaching
team, in constant contact through
email and telephone. In addition,
academic visits by Melbourne staff to
Kuching and visits by Kuching staff to
Melbourne assist in developing close
curriculum and teaching links. The
curriculum is developed jointly in
Melbourne and Kuching, closely based
on the Melbourne curriculum.
Assessments (examinations,
assignments and laboratory work) are
moderated to ensure that the same
high standards apply to both
campuses. A number of our courses
are accredited by professional bodies
such as CPA Australia, Engineers
Australia and Board of Engineers
Malaysia, testament to our high
standards and strict quality control.
Additionally, a significant number of
our academics hold PhDs and
Masters, and have had industry
experience in their field of expertise.
Quality control
Our quality control processes are welldocumented
and all academic staff
familiarise themselves with the
processes so that academic visits,
assessment moderation and the like
comply with our quality assurance
requirements. Every semester, all
subject conveners must report on the
operation of each subject. We identify
areas that could be improved and
ensure that necessary changes are
followed through.
