High Noon Holsters’
Bare Asset rig.
High Noon
Holsters’ extremely
effective clip.
set IWB Holster
behind her right hip joint and the grip
is hidden by the vest or jacket that she
always wears. The Bare Asset places the
handle at a very convenient height and
provides lots space for her fingers, so
both her firing grip and her drawstroke
are quick, smooth, and certain.
Some people believe that in a self-defense
situation, once a threat has fled
or been eliminated, it is unnecessary to
be able to smoothly reholster the pistol
without looking at the holster. We disagree.
We believe that there are many
self-defense scenarios in which continuing
to scan the area for other threats
while reholstering the pistol could be a
priority.
Because the waistband of Jean’s pants
is made of soft fabric and is never tightly
cinched, reholstering is a continuing
problem. We don’t want her to endanger
her left hand by pointing her pistol at it
during a reholstering maneuver, yet any
rig she uses must be supported by that
hand while she returns her gun to its
pouch. The well-designed spring clip
of the Bare Asset provides Jean a convenient,
comfortable, and reasonably safe
place to grip the holster while replacing
her pistol and firmly shoving it home.
The relatively soft leather of the Bare
Asset complicates the reholstering issue
a little. Even though a second layer of
leather reinforces the holster’s mouth, it
still collapses somewhat when the pistol
is drawn. To put her gun back in, Jean
has to wiggle the cylinder and frame
into the pouch. Reholstering would be
easier if High Noon Holsters had added
a thin strip of metal stiffening inside the
reinforcement layer to keep the pouch
wide open. We suggest that they should
do this, even if it raises the price a little.
Jean finds the Bare Asset very comfortable
to wear all day long. The extra
width built into its design spreads the
outfit’s weight out a little. One benefit
of the somewhat soft leather is that
it blunts a gun’s edges and corners,
and keeps them from digging in. Her
little J-frame revolver stays securely in
place, no matter what she does, and she
doesn’t need to think about it or check
up on it as the day wears on. The pouch
keeps the pistol’s butt out of her way,
yet always readily accessible. Its excellent
retention doesn’t clutch her gun
too tightly, so her presentation is always
smooth. She says that High Noon
Holsters did a very good job when they
created this rig.
The Bare Asset holster is a stock item,
so you don’t have to wait months for it
to be custom made. High Noon Holsters
has them ready to go in what seems to
be about 100 different sizes, each made
up to exactly fit one specific carry pistol.
Every one of them sells for $24.95, plus
$8.00 shipping. n
