Bare As
Comfortable to wear and
at a convenient height, the
Bare Asset stays in place.
High
Noon
Holsters’
My wife, Jean, finds wearing a belt or a tight waistband
extremely uncomfortable.
We found that High Noon
Holsters’ Bare Asset Inside the
Waistband (IWB) rig provides a
useful solution to her problem. It clips
firmly to the top of her beltless Polartec
pants, retains her J-frame Smith &
Wesson snubby securely, and allows a
quick, smooth, and unimpeded drawstroke.
There’s a bonus: it’s available
to properly fit almost any gun off-theshelf,
as fast as the Post Office can deliver
it.
High Noon Holsters makes the Bare
Asset from what appears to be oil-impregnated,
chrome-tanned leather,
vat-dyed black and about 1 ⁄16” thick.
The pouch’s mouth is reinforced with a
second layer of the same leather, which
also extends down one side of the rig
to anchor the belt clip. Just aft of the J-
frame’s trigger guard there is a tensioning
device, consisting of a rubber grommet
that is compressed by a Chicago
screw and a finish washer.
This holster isn’t wet-formed to fit the
gun because chrome-tanned leather
doesn’t work that way. The Bare Asset is
a semi-soft holster that, over time, will
shape itself only minimally to the pistol
it carries. Since its pouch isn’t form-fitted,
Jean has to push her pistol into it
with some force to seat it properly. Once
in, though, the gun stays put very securely.
This calls into question the need
for a tensioning device. It seems superfluous
to us, so we’ve disabled it.
The black, spring-steel belt clip is perfect
for providing a secure grip on Jean’s
waistband. It slips effortlessly into place
over the thick fabric, and it stays firmly
anchored during every drawstroke, yet
this rig is very easy to remove. When I
tried it out, I found that it also easily
slides on and off belts up to 1 3 ⁄4” wide
without making me undo any clothing
at all. Although this holster has a 12-degree
FBI cant built in, the clip is close
enough to the pistol’s center of gravity
to allow Jean to set it at whatever angle
she chooses, confident that it will stay
there.
The width of the J-frame’s cylinder
spaces the revolver’s butt just far
enough from Jean’s body that she can
attain a firing grip easily, even though
the pistol is tucked neatly into her waist.
Jean wears her J-frame snubby directly
