Project: Parks and Recreation Equipment Replacement
Description and Purpose:
The Parks and Recreation Department uses various pieces of equipment for
special park projects as well as park mowing. Prudent replacement of
equipment allows for optimum usage and minimizes lost time in repairs and
service issues with damaged or inoperable equipment.

Justification:
Replacement of parks and recreation department vehicles and equipment is
based on estimated useful life, service needs, and mileage limits. Out-front
mowers are highly maneuverable and designed to meet the varied and
demanding conditions found in the City’s park system. Many of these models
include hydraulic mower lifts, have shaft driven mowers and transmission and
have power steering. In most conditions, they out-mow larger decked mowers
due to their mowing speed tolerance, maneuverability (less trimming) and
versatility. The purchase of a fourth mower is the result of increasing mowing
acreage and the loss of productivity in loading and unloading mowers,
transporting across town, etc. Having a fourth mower will allow for split
mowing crews when efficiency would benefit. The 45 HP and 55 HP tractors
have high powered engines with high torque and will be used for a variety of
projects such as excavation, hauling, leveling, plowing, etc. The ¾ Ton Pick-up
and 1 Ton Dump Truck purchases are replacement for current inventory that
will all be 10 years old or older at time of replacement.
