VICARAGE & 50NL · WEEK 6 · FRIDAY 5 OCTOBER 2012
ONCE UPON A TIME . . .
Book week began in style with the children arriving on Monday morning dressed up as an array of fantastic story
characters. There were some wonderful costumes from a multitude of books and despite the rain the children paraded
proudly in front of their mummies and daddies. Everyone including the teachers entered into the spirit of the day! Thank
you for all the effort which went into making and preparing the outfi ts for the children.
PA NEWS
Cake Sale Thursday 11 October: It is time
to start baking again. Please try to fi nd time
to make something for next Thursday’s
Cake Sale. There is always a fantastic
selection of homemade cupcakes, cookies,
biscuits and cakes for the children to choose from. Please
remember the school has a STRICT NO NUT POLICY and
all the ingredients must be clearly labelled. Could all Lower
School children bring in 50p which will enable them to
have a cake at break time and also a guess in our fabulous
cake competition. Thank you to everyone who has offered
to help at the various sales. Happy baking!
Parents Association
PARENT/TEACHER MEETINGS
Mrs Graham will be at the Vicarage on Monday 8 October,
50NL on Wednesday 10 October and Garrads Road
on the Thursday 11 October during Parent/Teacher
Week. If anyone would like to make an appointment
to see her please book a timeslot by email to e.gillett
northwoodschools.com
Please contact your Child’s class teacher if you have not
booked your time slot to meet with them on either Monday
8 or Wednesday 10 October
NOTES FROM THE HEAD
Uniform: As the weather has now truly turned autumnal,
please could all children wear full winter uniform. All girls
must wear their hats. Should you need any extra uniform,
Loofy is open on Monday (8.00-10.00) and Thursday
(3.00-6.00). Alternatively the next second hand sale will be
on Tuesday 13 November from 1.00-3.00 at 50NL. If you
have bought second hand uniform, please rename the
items with your own child’s name
Money in school: May I remind parents that no money
should be brought to school unless it is for the cake sale,
mufti day or church. This money is given to an adult or put
in the collecting bag.
Food: Please no snacks on the school premises after
school as the crumbs encourage unwanted wild life!
Parking Complaints: Please avoid leaving your engines
running during drop-off and pick-up as it is not only very
un-eco friendly but extremely unhealthy for our neighbours.
Dogs: Although Broomwood is known to be a dog-friendly
school, none of us are very fond of what they sometimes
leave behind. If you feel there is the SLIGHTEST
possibility of your dog leaving us a gift of this nature,
please come with a bag with which to clear it up. We have
had a couple of incidents so far this term and do not wish
to have any repeat performances.
CHURCH CORNER
Thursday 11 October: Next week is the fi rst of our Lower
School only services this term. Class 3E are very much
looking forward to singing and acting the story about
Joseph and his brothers.
SPORTS UPDATE
The Class 3 girls braved the rain on Friday for their
fi rst fi xture against Thomas’s Clapham. All of the girls
played extremely well and showed some good skills
for their fi rst match. The Green and Black teams both
had a win, a loss and a draw with Ella Ward showing
some excellent defensive skills, and Allegra Bantoft
had an all round outstanding game. The Yellow team
had two draws and a narrow loss with Eliza Cooper and
Emma Cruikshank showing some excellent defence. For
the Red team, which had two wins and a draw, Rosie
Jankovich-Besan was the stand out player. Well done on
a great start to the season, girls!
Miss Colette Shearer – Sports & PE
AFRICAN FOLK TALES
Storyteller Jan Blake entertained the classes as she
told African folk tales to the beat of various percussion
instruments. She had us all joining in with songs and
repeated phrases and we were totally gripped.
Miss Georgina Warner-Smith – Book Week Organiser
POETRY COMPETITION
On Thursday afternoon the children in Classes 1 to 3 took
part in the fi nals of the annual poetry competition. Heats
were held the previous week in the individual classrooms,
following which the fi nalists were chosen. The fi nalists
performed their plays with clarity, expression and some
brilliant actions. It was a tough task for the judges to
choose the winners and congratulations to Alessandro Pizzi
(Class 1), Ollie Chapman (Class 2), Ella Ward (Class 3). Well
done too, to the other fi nalists: Teddy Watmough, Oliver
Clark, Leo Bedi, Imogen Kidd, Izzy Hudson, Ted Cussans
and Emma Cruikshank.
EPSOM CHOIR FESTIVAL
On Tuesday, some of our Class 3s and GR children were
lucky enough to take part in a
singing festival with eight other
Prep Schools at Epsom College.
The children worked hard
throughout the day on perfecting
a selection of songs, all based
around the theme of weather.
They were also given a concert
by a number of soloists and
three choirs, all of whom were
students from the college. The boys choir was particularly
impressive! The day ended with a grand performance of
the songs they had learnt in front of their parents. It was an
exhausting, exciting and inspiring day day.
Miss Joanna Marlow – Head of Music
