Church Services
Church Services are held every Thursday at 8.45
at St Luke’s, Thurleigh Road. Coffee is
available for parents before the service starts so
please do come along each week, even if it’s
not your child taking part.
Harvest Festival will be on Friday 19 September
at 8.45 (St Luke’s) for the Lower School.
Carol Services will be held on Wed10 December
at 2.30 (Lower School) and 7.00 (Upper
School) at St Luke’s. Parents are welcome at all
our church services.

This is a Christian non-denominational group
of parents that meets twice a term to pray for
school related matters. Parents with preschool

Nativity Plays
The Class 1s will present their Nativity Play in
St Luke’s Church on Friday 28 November:

Please note that parents are asked not to bring
very young children to the main performance.
It can be incredibly distracting for the
children taking part. However, we would be
delighted to see them at the dress rehearsals.
If you can help with costumes please attend the
costume meeting on Tuesday 30 Sept at 8.45 at
The Vicarage.

Parental help and/or accompaniment on
excursions is always welcome. A packed lunch
(nut-free) is needed on full day excursions.
Swimming
This term Class 1S and one third of 1W will
swim on Wednesday afternoons at Tooting
Leisure Centre. Then Class 1E and another
third of 1W will swim on Wednesday 3 Dec and
continue next term. The children will travel in
the school’s minibuses, but help with changing
is always much appreciated – please sign the list
if you can accompany the class.
Parents Association Events
Cake stalls will be held this term on Thursday 2
October, at all buildings in aid of our charity of
the year.
The Christmas Fair will be held on Wednesday
15 October from 7.00pm at Northcote Lodge.
The Lower School Toy Fair will be held on
Thurs 4 Dec at The Vicarage.
PA meetings will take place on Tuesday 9
September at 74NL and Tuesday 28 October at
74NL.
Clubs
Clubs begin this term in Week 3. Class 2 and 3
children may do two clubs per term (karate
counts as one club). Karate is a commitment for
the entire year.
3. AT SCHOOL
School Times
The school day is from 8.45 until 3.00 or 3.30
Younger children are dismissed earlier (see below).
Arrival
The doors at The Vicarage and 50 Nightingale
Lane are opened at 8.20 and are closed at 8.35.
Children must not be left on their own in the
grounds under any circumstances.
Dismissal
Prep Classes 3.00pm
Classes 1-3 3.30pm
On Friday the Lower School goes home at 3.00.
If a child is to be collected by someone else,
please write the details in the prep diary or let
the teacher know by voicemail.

Please avoid telephoning the Office with complicated
last-minute arrangements.
Please note: we will not release children to
people we do not know without written
advice.
Illness, Accidents and Emergencies
If a child is ill, you should notify the teacher by
leaving a message on the voicemail. A
letter of explanation should be sent to the
teacher on the child’s return to school.
The School should be notified immediately if a
child contracts or comes in contact with an
infectious disease. In this case a child may not
return to School without a doctor’s certificate.
A child who has had a disturbed night, whether
through illness or for any other reason, cannot
work properly and should be kept at home.
Absence from school
The school policy clearly states that we cannot
condone any absences during term time. Please
make sure that any routine appointments eg.
dentists, doctors, are kept to the holidays.
Term dates are published well in advance so that
holidays can be booked outside these times. If
absence from school is unavoidable, a written
request needs should be made to the Head to ask
permission for leave well ahead of the event.
Uniform
We expect children to come to School
correctly dressed in the proper uniform. We
turn a blind eye to substitutes for the first few
days of Michaelmas term; delays can occur
through no fault of parents.
Our suppliers are Loofy, who supply all items
including second hand clothing (not shoes) from
the school shop at Broomwood Hall Upper
School, 68 Nightingale Lane, SW12
(telephone: 020-8673 2441).
The shop is open at the following times:

Thursdays 3.00-6.00
All Prep children wear smocks over their
uniforms, which are taken home on Fridays for
washing. They should have spare underwear and
socks in their satchels. Rain capes live in satchels.
Appointments to see staff
Appointments to see the Head of Lower School,
Miss Diana Mardon, should be made through the
Vicarage School Secretary, Mrs Gina Webb-
Bowen (8682 8820).
Teachers are always available for informal talks
before or after school; however we ask you
please not to discuss your child in front of
him or her. If you wish to discuss a child’s
progress please make an appointment between
8.00 and 8.30, or after school.
4. AT HOME
Homework
All children have homework, every night –
usually a reading assignment, to which are added
spelling words, tables etc as the child progresses
through the school. They have a prep diary in
which details of the assignments are written; the
diary should be signed by parents each evening.
The prep diary is the principal means of
communication between parents and the
School.
Bedtimes
A child cannot work properly without a good
night’s sleep. Please co-operate by ensuring that
during the term time, children are in bed and asleep
by an early hour. As a guide, we think that Prep
children should be in bed no later than 6.45pm;
Class 1, 7.00; Class 2, 7.15, and Class 3, 7.30.
We well understand how difficult it can be to get
a reluctant child off to bed. But we see a side of
the children that you do not. WE KNOW when
a child has had a late or disturbed night. It is
unfair on the child, and places him at a
disadvantage with his peers.
Parties
Children may not have birthday parties during
the week in term time. Two entire days are
ruined for the whole class if this occurs: the day
of the party, and the day afterwards. This is an
absolute rule; we will not make exceptions, and
take a very dim view of anyone who breaks it.
Routines
It is very important that the teachers are aware
of any change in routine at home, which might
affect a child at school – for example, visitors,
business trips, change of nanny, builders, etc.
