requisite medicines for the beneficiaries, local hospitals
and neighbouring nursing homes were tapped. Better
and steady control of few diseases like diabetes, blood
pressure etc.
Through eye camps 33 cataract patients have been
identified by four agencies and have referred the patients
to the base hospitals for cataract surgeries. By the end of September, 30 cataract surgeries
have been conducted across 3 projects - St.Joseph’s Prashant Nivas, Bazm-E-Niswan,
DTFWA. As part of providing Physiotherapy services to elders, four project agencies have
initiated procurement of physio equipments and setting up at the project locations have been
taken up to identify young volunteers by project partners to get them trained as Para
Physiotherapist. This Para Physiotherapists will intensively travel in the remote villages and
slums and provide Physiotherapy treatment to the elders at their door steps itself.
Changes or improvements on the lives of the beneficiaries as a result of the project:
Elders are able to view problems in a better way as a result of regular counselling. The project
has leaded the old people towards self dependency. Elders are able to bring a sense of unity
among them, elders are able to make proper decisions in family as well as community and
Working together has brought a sense of collective decision making among the elders
Share any positive or negative changes in the lives of the beneficiaries as a result of
external events (local, national, emergencies, etc):
Project has made changes in their life like getting away from loneliness, ignorance and taken
care of by the project. The lives of the elders have vastly
improved and have the chance to live safety, independently
and happily .Because of the unity among the elders they are
involving themselves in the community decision making.
Elders find the community as a better place to live-in.
Economic independence has become the topic among the
elders
Challenges faced in the last 6 months and steps taken to
over come the challenges:
The agencies representatives consider meeting the daily
needs within the restricted budget is a challenge and they are
Older people learning how to write
their name from school children.
facing difficult times in meeting the medical expenses for bed ridden patients. When it comes to
community based agencies many able elders are scattered and difficult to organise in one
place. The representatives of the agencies strongly feel grain bank is difficult implement so they
in the process of looking for an alternative option for commodity support. As a result of ageing
many older people eat less than in their younger days, which are reducing their appetite level.
