Summer is finally here and we are getting
some decent weather. Lets bite the bullet, fuel up and do some
cruising. There is a lot to do close by. Visit our local clubs and enjoy
the fellowship. Also check out all the fun filled activities our
rear commodore and fleet captain have planned for us. Last month
was busy and I'd like to thank the Blue Gavel for the brats and
burgers night and Fleet Captain PC Omey for putting together the
5-club poker run. We had a good time cooking chicken and fries
for VC Rogers fundraiser till we had to leave to attend Swan Boat
Clubs Commodores Ball. Thanks to Tim Krell and his crew for hosting
Beer Fest II. Becky and I accompanied by VC Rogers, Lady Judi
and PC Scott Kneisel attended the Opening of the Island at Ford
Yacht Club. After the ceremony it was back to Bay View to light
the match and BURN THAT LEASE !!! Thank You to everyone involved
in making that all come together.
On June 17 TH. Becky and I attended the first poker run of
the season. Where yours truly, Mary Kathryn participated in the
$1.98 beauty contest. Thanks to all the members who came out to
support me. The Regatta was well attended by Bay View members.
THANK YOU !
Coming up July 1st. the Kneisel Family will be hosting a
fundraiser for the American Heart Association. Please plan to attend
and support the event. Don't forget to check the Rear Commodores
and Fleet Captains articles for upcoming events. Remember
more than ever to quote PC Joe Glorioso, ITS YOUR CLUB
!
Report from the Vice Commodore
July, how can it be! It seems we just put away the Christmas Trees. Boats have paint &
polish, in the water at last - haven't left the dock and the time is moving fast!!! OK
enough! Let me back up to June 2nd 6:30 am as I load up in my father's van with my Dad
and Aunts Peggy & Elsie. 700 miles south to Bessemer, Alabama to attend Cousin Morris
Edward Rogers' funeral. A safe but very HOT trip (98 Friday & 99 Saturday). Can I get
home on June 4th to help with my first Fund Raiser (5 Club Poker Run)? I hope so!!!
Did I? Not even close. By Friday night was my Lady Judi on overload?! Very much so! I
said Honey you'll be fine - we have a good committee. I didn't know that my good committee
would become SUPER performers. Commodore Greg Snyir, Ron Roop, and our
son Brian Rogers cooked at the deep frier's outside in 90 + heat all day, with P/C
Lee Omey helping our between several other commitments that same day. Our Co-chairs
Lelsie Roop & Mindy Delvaux (just two days recovering from knee surgery) along with
committee members Sharon Branum, Sue Corey, Lindsey Collins, Linda Gaertner & Jim,
Mark Gensler, Mary Jo Schmelz, Becky Henderly, Chrisanne Timm and other BVYC
members Carol Griffin and Diana Vanderhoff covered all the inside duties. My Lady Judi did all the preliminary
planning & shopping for the food & supplies and Mark & Lindsey were at the club to get it all into the galley prior
to the event. Judi & I appreciate all your hard work so very much. You turned the day into a GREAT Fund Raiser.
Blessed are we who have so many friends!!! Now June 11th A.M. - A road trip to Ford Yacht Club for the
"Opening of the Islands". Joining us was Commodore Greg Snyir & Lady Becky Henderly and another of my
mentors, P.C Scott Kneisel (even though I'm almost twice his age). As we departed it looked as if it were about to
rain. A few short stories, alot of laughing, some tex messages to Lady Sharon in Washington DC, and we arrived.
The sun comes out and we participate in a very moving ceremony followed by a pleasant boat ride and the
Blessing. Hurry back to BVYC to Burn the Lease! June 11th P.M. - Burn The Lease Party, a WONDERFUL
Event! Thank you to P/C Lee Omey & Lady Judy and Brandon & Linda Smith! The food was delicious and I
didn't have to do dishes. Lady Judi & I enjoyed seeing new members and old friends like the Peter sons. June
17th - Toledo Sailing Club Regatta and AYC Poker Run. Bay View was well represented. And of course the
highlight of the evening was attending the $1.98 Beauty Contest. Commodore Greg Snyir and his long flowing
blond hair, short plaid skirt, and Zebra Bra gave him a school girlish charm with a very sexy flare!!! Our Commodore
has great legs and very erotic moves on the runway!!! He should have won! Lady Judi had a front row seat at
the end of the runway and has some very interesting photo's of all of the contestants. I suggested she not put
them on the net because we just ran a Congressman out of office for a lot less!
Welcome Aboard to our newest member Patty Slupecki #825 who was voted in on June 8, 2011.
Respectfully, Vice Commodore, Don Rogers
Report from the Fleet Captain
July is here and along with the July 4Th holiday and the BVYC first club cruise. We are going to
Maumee Bay State park on the 8Th and 9Th. I'm not sure if there are any spots open but if you are interested
give the park a call. The second cruise is August 26 and 27 to Cedar Point. I believe there are still
some docks available for this cruise. So if interested give the dock office a call and reserve a dock. The
third cruise is to Put in Bay on September the 16 and we will be at the Crews Nest for the weekend. I believe
there are docks available for this trip also, give them a call if you want to go.
Report from the Rear Commodore
P a g e 3
It’s finally “summertime and the livin’ is easy” (apologies to
George Gershwin).
I cannot thank Maury and Connie enough for hosting the 25 th anniversary
“Margaritaville Party” Not only for this year but for every year
that they have taken us away to that special place called Margaritaville.
THANK YOU!
The next weekend was the annual “Opening of the Port” ceremony
which took place at MRYC. The event was first rate even though the parade
of boats was cancelled; (due to hazardous river conditions) there
was a tent party in the parking lot which gave more of an opportunity to
socialize with everyone.
On June 10 th , Tim Krell hosted “Beer-Fest II.” The event started slow but by the end of the
evening we had quite a crowd and it looked as though everyone was having a good time.
Must’ve been the beer. Thanks Tim.
The next night the DATAP committee hosted the “Burning of the Lease party.” What a
fantastic event and a real milestone in the history of Bay View. Congratulations and thanks to
all of the DATAP people.
I’m sorry I missed Commodore Greg at TSC’s “$1.98 Beauty Contest.” I was still trying to
get my boat in the water. Anyway, I’ve heard that there are some pics and videos out there
somewhere.
Upcoming events
July 1 st The Kniesel family and friends are hosting a cookout with the proceeds going to the
American Heart Association. Check the fliers.
July 3 rd The Kniesel’s are at again by hosting a chicken and rib dinner. This is also Scott’s
birthday, (or the day before). Anyway, he’ll be turning the big 50 so wish him a HAPPY
BIRTHDAY. Please RSVP before June 30 th .
July 8 th is the Maumee Bay cruise
July 22 nd The Blue Gavel is hosting a “Cook your own Steak or Chicken Dinner.” Check the
fliers.
That will bring us to August and our Homecoming. I know Jeff Durbin is looking for a few
good men and women. Please help him all that you can.
There are several events already planned for September. Sharon Branum is organizing another
Shipshewana bus trip on Tuesday, Sept. 6 th and Joe Glorioso is planning an AYC fundraising
spaghetti dinner on Sept 25 th .
