Report from the Commodore
My oh my, my May newsletter is late. It's Monday evening, April 23 rd . at 8pm. I think Lady Judi
and I are still numb from all the surprises at our Ball. From the moment we entered the hall - there
were our friends P/C Greg Snyir and Lady Becky Henderly at the Registration table, then the perfect
Photo Area by Bill & Lola Edens, with the Ships Wheel hand made by P/C Carl Butler as the
center of the scene and a special gift for me. The BVYC Bridge – V/C Michael Walsh & Lady Rebecca
and R/C Mark Gensler and Lady Laurie were waiting in the lobby for us to begin the Receiving
Line. The Main Hall had been transformed into the most beautiful Ballroom ever. Everything
was so eloquently done by the planning of Linda Gaertner, Sharon Branum, & Sue Corey in conjunction
with all the efforts and labor by our entire Ball Committee. Master of Ceremonies P/C
Carl Butler did a great job with the introductions and keeping the program moving along smoothly.
Thank you Lady Jolene Wagner for keeping with BVYC tradition in the singing of the anthems so
beautifully. My son, Brett Rogers – Thank You for the most moving (choke us up) Toast. Thanks
to Reverend Julie Beitelschees for the most meaningful Invocation. After enjoying a delicious meal
there was a surprise Photo Slide presentation of our life at BVYC prepared by Bill Edens. Thanks
you Bill, a true treasure for us! Remarks from our sons presented by Brett Rogers with Brian Rogers
cheering him on! Brett covered our entire BVYC story from Judi's childhood with her Grandparents,
Roma & Leota Paule, members since the early 1950's, my joining the club in 1972, raising
our sons at the club, our sons becoming members in 1997, and as of this month my 40 th year as a
member! Brett so sincerely expressed our family love of and dedication to Bay View Yacht Club,
“this most wonderful Family Club”!!! Brett also introduced our Family, Friends, and most importantly
my Parents in attendance. How many 68 year old Commodores are blessed to have their
Parents able to attend their Commodore's Ball. How Wonderful!!! P/C Carl Butler(sometimes referred
as our third son) shared his memories and experiences with us as an adult getting to know us
at BVYC as of 2000. Carl, Deana, and the boys are like family to us, as well as great friends with
Brian & Brett and their families. Thank you Carl! Then I was next and I thanked Brett for turning
my 7 pages into mostly scrap paper (with joy in my heart)! The heat was off and I could talk about,
thank, and recognize club members. This was BVYC 2012 Commodore's Ball and I just happen to
be Commodore. I explained my love for my Lady Judi, how we have shared and grown deeper in
love these soon to be 45 years. You must know by now how much we truly love this club and how
proud we are to be representing Bay View. To all who attended we were overjoyed by the numbers
and humbled at the same time!!! THANK YOU BAY VIEW MEMBERS!!!!
How do we say THANK YOU for a years work? This Ball Committee has done so much for us and
for the club. Countless hours and numerous events. We agreed on things and at times disagreed.
That's human nature and thank goodness we are not all alike. The end result equals SUCCESS!!!
“HERE'S TO A GREAT TEAM”: CO-CHAIRS MINDY DELVAUX(keeping us & the books in
order) and & LESLIE ROOP(organization and creative art work), TED & JULIE
BEITELSCHEES, SHARON BRAMUN, P/C CARL BUTLER & LADY DEANA, LINDSEY
COLLINS, SUE COREY, LINDA GAERTNER & JIM, CHARLIE & PAT GALLAGHER, R/C
MARK GENSLER, P/C LEE OMEY & LADY JUDY, BRIAN & LISA ROGERS, BRETT &
SHELLEY ROGERS, RON ROOP, MARY JO SCHMELZ, P/C GREG SNYIR AND LADY
BECKY, and CRAIG & CHRYSANNE TIMM. We are truly grateful for your support and dedication
to us and to Bay View Yacht Club!!!
Report from the Vice Commodore
Finally, May and the boating season begins. Boats are uncovered, the yard is active and
the docks are filling. It’s a great time of year.
Vice Commodore
Michael Walsh
On March 24 th , Rebecca and I attended the Harbor View Yacht Club Ball honoring Commodore
Frank Thomas and Lady Angie. We had a wonderful evening and now I can officially say
that yes “I drank with Frank.” The next day we were up early as we had to go to Toledo Yacht
Club to set up for the Opening of the Port, South of the Border Party. It was a long day, especially
after the “drank” with Frank the previous evening. But we had a lot of fun and there was
a good crowd. We even had to make a “GFS” run for more food. I want thank to all of the
BVYC members who came and supported this event. The next weekend we hosted the incoming
Elba Mar bus trip. I really had a great time with our friends from up north, catching up with
so many people that I had not seen for several years. Again, I want thank all of the members
who came out to the Club to welcome them. Later that evening P/C Rick Wagner and the Blue
Gavel hosted a “Keno” night and if that wasn’t enough, Laurie Patlin had a surprise birthday
party for Dave who tuned the BIG 50. Your AARP card is in the mail, Dave.
Enough about the fun I‘ve been having and down to business. Last month we did have three resignations.
They are: Thomas Makowski Kirk Lahey George “Ron” Hamblin
We do have one new application from John Lovas. He has had his first reading and has been interviewed and will
be voted on at the April 25 th meeting. I believe he will be an asset to the Club. The Constitution change that had appeared
in the Bay Views was passed at the last meeting. I believe this will be a good tool to use when we need to increase
our membership. Lastly, the 2013 Ball committee will be preparing food for the “Five Club Poker Run” June
2 nd . We have a meeting planned and will finalize what we will be serving. There will be plenty of fliers at the Club once
a decision has been made.
Gotta sign off, time to get ready for Commodore Don and Lady Judi’s Ball, tonight .The Vice Verses, Michael Walsh
