TOGA Party
Spring has finally arrived and I'm sure by now
are thoughts are turning towards getting are boats ready for another
season of enjoyment. First of all I would like to thank Rear Commodore
Mike Walsh, Lady Rebecca and there crew for putting on the
St.Patricks Day party and the Burger Basket night. I understand they
were well attended and everyone had a good time. I'm sorry Becky
and I couldn't be there.
Becky and I represented BVYC at Ford Yacht club and Catawba West
Harbor Yacht clubs Commodores Balls. Coming up this month don't
forget April 2nd. The South of the Border party at MRYC. This is the
annual fundraiser to help the clubs offset the cost of our Opening of
the Port celebration on Memorial Day weekend. Tickets are available
at the bar and will also be available at the door. Hope to see you
there. Next coming up on Sunday April 10th. will be the children's
Easter Party put on by the Auxiliary. Please see the Auxiliary's report
for more details. Next event will be Saturday April 16th. The BVYC
Commodores Ball. The 2011 Ball Commitee has worked very hard to
make this a memorable evening and without the support of the
membership at all of our fundraisers throughout the year an evening
like this woldnt be possible. THANKS !! to all of you and I hope you
will be able to attend. Becky and I would like to wish you and your
families a safe and happy Easter.
Till Next Month will see you around the Club
April Showers will bring May Flowers ... that will work if you don't have a
squirrel who digs up the bulbs and eats them!!! We have had one and I named
him ##X##X# ##XXX###, which is Indian for moving target!
Let's go back to Feb 26th - what a great, fun day at B.V.Y.C. Thank you P/C
Dave Wagner and Lady Donna for sharing your 50th Wedding Anniversary
with us all. You have a very heart warming love story and a wonderful family.
It didn't surprise me to see how many people responded to your invitation, not
how far they traveled, or how they fit into your life's story. May God continue
to bless you and your family and THANKS again for an occasion to be remembered!!!
March 12th Judi & I attended the fund raiser for A.Y.C.'s Vice Commodore Jim
Kiessler and Lady Patty. What a turn out!!! The Monroe Sports Center was
full. It was a tremendous show of support for these hard working, dedicated people. Still the 12th
south bound to B.V.Y.C. and the wearing of the green. R/C Michael Walsh and Lady Rebecca put on
an authentic Jig's Dinner (with some very familiar faces & laughter in the galley) and Dance. The
food was great and plenty of it! A little dancing & dessert made our day complete!!!
B.V.Y.C. Members - Spouses of members are welcome to join the B.V.Y.C. Auxiliary. Contact my
wife, Lady Judi, 2nd Vice President of the Auxiliary for information at (419) 385-5556.
Report from the Fleet Captain
With the arrival of April the boating season is gearing up for what I hope is a great year. The cruises
to Maumee Bay and Cedar Point are posted and filled at this time. If you are still interested please sign
up and any vacancies that occur will be filled in the order of sign up. We will be going to Put In Bay for
New Years which is September 16Th and 17Th. I will have the sign up sheet posted this week.
Remember you have to make your own reservations for these cruises, I have reserved 15 docks for
each. As we get closer I will check and see who has reserved their docks and call anyone who has not
made reservation. If they have changed their minds I will begin call people on the waiting list.
Ford Yacht is coming to our club on a bus trip on April 9Th and should arrive about 12:30. The
have scheduled 2 buses and expect about 100 people to come. If possible please come and greet then and
bring a dish to share.
Report from the Rear Commodore
P a g e 3
I just left the Club, the boat yard is open and there are signs of activity in the
yard. A sure sign that Spring is here and we can put a rough Winter behind us.
I want to thank everyone who came out for the Jiggs dinner on March 12 th .
It was very well attended and Joe Ceglio put out some great food. I also want
to thank Mary J Schmelz, Phil King, Chuck White, P/C Lee and Lady Judy
and My wife Rebecca for all of their help. Later that night, we were entertained
by P/C Lenz, or would that be D/J Lenz, or both. Anyway, the Bar was
full and we had several people stop by from other clubs. Seemed like everybody
had a good time.
About a month ago, Al Bremer and I were talking about doing a “Burger
Basket Nite” Nothing fancy, just some good burgers. We set the date for March
19 th , and we didn’t quite expect the crowd that came. We were “swamped,”
which was good, but to those that waited in line, I’m sorry and thanks for your patience. It was a great
turn-out. I really need to thank the galley crew for this one, because they really did WORK: Al,
(who spent over 3 hours at the grill) and Sharon Bremer, Mary Jo Schmelz, Tim Krell, P/C Lee, (
who made an unplanned run to Gordon’s for more), his Lady Judy, the “Tater Tot Queen” and My
Lady Rebecca Thank you!
On to the upcoming events:
April 2 nd , the Opening of the Port Committee is having the “South of the Border” party at Maumee
River Yacht Club. Tickets are on sale at the Club bar. Check fliers at the Club for times and details.
April 9 th , Ford Yacht Club will be visiting by bus at around noon. I’m sure Fleet Capt. Lee will
have more on this so come out to the Club welcome our friends from the north.
April 16 th is the Bay View Commodore’s Ball, honoring Commodore Greg Snyir and Lady Becky.
April 30 th is the first Bay View “Toga Party”. Rip off your bed sheets, wrap ‘em around you and
have some fun. There will be Greek dinners ( The dinners are limited to sixty) and entertainment.
Check the fliers posted at the Club. There is also a work, sign-up sheet. If you need work hours, (or
even if you don’t), please sign up, it’s actually fun sometimes.
May 21 st is the annual “Margaritaville Party” hosted by P/C Maury and Lady Connie. This is the
25 th anniversary of the party and like every year it still is the “BEST.” There are fliers posted at the
Club and, as above, there is a work, sign-up sheet and this party really is fun to work.
June 3 rd , The Blue Gavel is having a Burger and Brat grill.
June 4 th , Is the annual 5 club poker run
We are planning the “Burn the Lease Party.” The date is June 11 th . The DATAP committee will
meet to finalize the plans. I hope I have that acronym correct. At least I know what it stands for now.
The Auxiliary does a lot for the Club through their work and donations. They are hosting several
events in April. Please give them your support.
Ship’s Store. Jolene and
Sue will complete a physical
transition. New merchandise
will be coming soon!
Reward Cards
Kris Sager has worked
diligently to design a reward
system for auxiliary
members. Credit will be
given to members who
attend meetings, help at
events and put in work
hours at Homecoming.
Many of the “main” BVYC
members are involved in longterm
relationships without being
married. Many of these “nonspouses”
have been extremely
helpful and supportive of auxiliary
functions, but have not been
able to join our auxiliary. After
reading the proposed constitution
change twice, and a vote at the
February meeting, the auxiliary
has agreed to extend membership
to non-spouses of main members.
WELCOME!
There is no birthday list this
month due to a nasty virus
wiping many things from my
computer. Next month will
wish all March, April and
May members a happy birthday!
