Report from the Commodore
Hello Fellow Members, MARCH is on the way and here we are enjoying the Fifth Warmest
Winter in a hundred years of recorded weather I would like to be able to take credit for this
event, but I can't. I can tell you one thing, we have smiled as much as anyone.
Speaking of Events there's been a few. Jan. 21 st – Judi & I attended Ottawa River Yacht Club
(O.R.Y.C.'s) Ball honoring Commodore Don Shuster and Lady Minnie. Following dinner we dashed
away to B.V.Y.C. to wish our Daughter-in-law, Shelley a Happy Birthday at her surprise party.
Good Job Family & Friends! The Party was very well attended, decorated and lots of good food. In
a hour we had a few bites, dances, hugs & kisses. Tom Blank shared the Party with Shelley – Happy
50 th to Tom!!! Back to O.R.Y.C. to dance til the music ended and then off the the After-Glow Party.
One Thirty in the morning, “Oh My, am I OLD”! Jan. 29 th – Ford Yacht Club (F.Y.C.) Commodore/Fleet
Captain Meeting. We enjoyed the ride to Ford with Fleet Captain P/C Scott Kneisel. Ideas
and some short stories were shared. (Don't Laugh!). The 2012 Poker Run information and attendance
books were passed out. Everyone had another opportunity to put names and faces together.
Fleet Captains compared calendars for Cruising Dates to other clubs. Thanks to the Associated
Yacht Clubs (A.Y.C.) Officers and F.Y.C. this was an afternoon well spent. Jan 30 th – The second
Four Club Meeting to prepare for the 2012 “Opening of the Port” weekend events. *SEE THE
EVENT INSERT.
Feb. 4 th – Headed North to Elba Mar Boat Club's (E.M.B.C.) Commodore's Ball honoring Commodore
Fred Keier and Lady Judy. Fred was roasted and toasted in a way that only people who know
and love him could do. Thanks for a wonderful time! OK Feb. 5 th Super Bowl Party at B.V.Y.C by
R/C Mark Gensler. Mark's lady Laurie and his Bay View crew did a great job! Lots of great food
and chances to win or not. But here's another story. Jim Bashore – Quiet, no brag guy! Almost a
year ago he convinces the NFL to have the Super Bowl on his wife's Birthday. Also asking them not
to put it in the ads because he wanted it to be a Big Surprise! So Jim's Birthday was Friday the 3 rd . -
like a pre-game warm-up. You know friends for dinner and drinks. Just getting ready for Sunday
and the Big Bang. Tina was surprised, we all showed up. Everyone on TV waved back. It was
Great! Thanks, Jim!!!
Feb. 11 th – The Bus Trip to the Casino/Boat Show – Thank you Brett and Shelley Rogers for starting
this off! Brian & Lisa Rogers, Lindsay Collins, Ron & Leslie Roop, Mindy Delvaux, and other
ball committee members as well as others that helped make this a GREAT SUCCESS! ! ! Two buses
full of Bay View Members and Friends - THANK EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU – and line
up for hugs!!! I hope you know how important it was for us to be with past BayView member Julie
Bourdo, her sons, Scott and Skip and their family for the funeral of Julie's mother, Mildred Panning.
Mildred was 96 years of age and the day was truly a Celebration of her Life!
A.Y.C. Weekend! Let me just say this. “W 0 W” ! ! ! Our Room, Our People, Caddy Shack, Build
it, Set it Up, Run it, Dress Up, Stay Up, Tear Down, and Take it back to Bay View!!! These People
are something – FUN - DEDICATED - INGENUOUS - HARD WORKERS - ALMOST DRIVEN!
! ! I am so very proud of you all and grateful Judi & I could be of some help and share in the fun!
Committee members and workers – Steve & Deb Barry, Steve Cummerow, Deb & Ron Goedde,
Scott & Sharon Kneisel, Dave & Laurie Patlin, Rick Kronsperger, Ken Alexander, Don Hoste, Penny
Dalton, Woody Wlodarczyk, Greg Snyir, Rick Wagner, and Alan Elllison - You are the BEST! !
! Judi & I enjoyed spending some time with the 2012 A.Y.C. Commodore Jim Kessler, Lady Patti
and our 2012 group Friday evening, as well as time in the Bay View Hospitality Room with me
dressed as Rodney Dangerfield. (Judi says she is getting tired of me still doing quotes of Rodney's
routines.)

Continued - Report from the Commodore
Saturday's schedule began with the A.Y.C.'s Commodore's Reception at 11:11 am, free time until 5:30 pm for Cocktails,
and 7:00 pm the Ball. We found it challenging keeping up with all the attire changes through-out the day. We
shared a table with Vice Commodore Michael Walsh & Lady Rebecca, P/C Steve Barry & Lady Deb, P/C Bill Lenz
& Lady Pauline, and P/C Carl Butler & Lady Deana. After the Change of Watch ceremony we moved on to another
wardrobe change and dancing in the Atrium. The evening came to an end with the 2011's jumping into the pool at
11:11 pm! Sunday Morning we ended our terrific weekend by sharing breakfast with some 2012 Commodores and
their Ladies. What a perfect weekend!!!
Just a few Housekeeping issues. I am still in need of additional Chairmen for the House Committee. I would like to
make this a shared Chairmen of at least three with additional committee members to share in the upkeep of our building
and grounds. With everyone's busy, hectic schedules the House Chairman position may be too much for one person.
Please call me A.S.A.P. To discuss. I did say “PLEASE!!!”
Keep Robert Anderson and Bill Mayfield (health issues) and Mindy Delvaux(father in Hospice) in our thoughts and
prayers. Please let myself or someone on the Bridge, Board, or Bar Staff informed as to any personal or family illnesses,
special circumstances, etc. so we may be of help if needed. When the time comes if you can do something for
our friends, please do!
Your Commodore, Don Rogers
Report from the Vice Commodore
Well the Super Bowl is over and even though my “Brady Bunch” lost, R/C Mark
threw one good party. There was a good turn out and even better food. Good Party!
Mark. Rebecca and I attended the AYC Commodore’s Ball just last weekend;
even though we both were a little “under the weather” we still had a great time.
The BVYC hospitality room was terrific and should have won an award for originality
at the very least. I know Lady Sharon Kneisel and P/C Steve Barry put a lot of
thought and hard work into our room this year and the efforts showed. Well onto
the member changes.
Vice Commodore
Michael Walsh
From Active to Social: Ken Meyerholtz
Resigned: P/C Ron Crane, Colleen Sanders
This leaves the membership at 244 “active” and 114 “social.”
I have proposed a constitution change which should be printed in this month’s Bay Views. Hopefully
this will be a tool that can be used when necessary to increase our membership. I am still sending out
membership rosters by E-mail. If you would like an updated roster, please send your E-mail address to
either myself at pierpressure@accesstoledo.com or to Lindsey Collins at lindseyanne06@hotmail.com
so we can send you a copy. It is a rather large file, (23 MB) and will be in a “pdf” format. The Opening
of the Port committee is hosting a “South of the Border Party” Sunday, March 25 th at Toledo Yacht
Club. Check the fliers in the “Bay Views” or at the Club. Tickets are available at the Cub bar or contact
Commodore Don, Myself or R/C Mark This is always a fun event.
Special Announcements
AYC Commodores Ball 2012
The AYC Commodores Ball was held February 17-18 at the Ramada Inn on Secor. The event is centered around the
Ball on Saturday night, but starts Friday night. With over a dozen hospitality rooms, a band, and many hundreds of
people, it is quite an event. With participants from all the clubs at the West end of Lake Erie, it is a chance to see all
of our boating friends that we haven't seen since last summer.
I was proud that BVYC was able to host a hospitality room without a co-host. We did this through much help and
support from the club and members. The primary committee working on this were the Barry's, Goedde's, Kneisel's
and Patlin's. It was a great group of people to work with, and the results showed the effort and commitment put forth
by all. With a golf theme, and a CaddyShack slant to the room, Sharon coordinated the decorating in a unique way.
We heard many good things about the room from those in attendance, and kept seeing people come back and bringing
their friends. They liked all of our AYC club burgees on the "golf course", and all of the members faces in the
gallery.
This year saw the largest attendance of Bay View members in quite a few years, and it was good to see the support.
Rather than list all who helped, I will second the thanks from the Commodore for all who helped or supported us.
Thanks to Tony and Tom for the special effects, audio video, and the "tee shot". Special thanks to those who donated
a bottle for the bar, it really helped us keep the costs down this year. We also re-used a number of items from last
year to help keep costs down, and expect to do the same for next year. If you haven't been there yet, or in a few
years, consider joining us next year. It is a special time, and lots of fun.
P/C Stephen Barry
track of who received their new cards.
As in the past an additional card can be purchased for $1.00.
Dock Assignment Committee members.
Please check to see that the name of the insured and period of insurance is clearly stated on documents submitted.
In order for the Dock Assignment Committee to remind Dock Holders of impending insurance renewal dates ,
