Whoever in the municipia, colonies, or prefectures <strong>of</strong> Census-tak-<br />

fectures, there are or shall be in Italy,—shall hold the /j. 28.<br />

highest magistracy or the highest <strong>of</strong>fice there at the time<br />

when the censor or any other magistrate is about to take<br />

the census <strong>of</strong> the people at Rome, he, within the next<br />

sixty days after he shall know that the census <strong>of</strong> the people<br />

is to be taken at Rome, shall take the census <strong>of</strong> all the<br />

members <strong>of</strong> his municipium, colony, or prefecture who<br />

shall be Roman citizens; and he shall cause them to declare<br />

under oath their gentile names, personal names, fathers<br />

or patrons, tribes, family names, how old each one <strong>of</strong><br />

them is and the amount <strong>of</strong> his wealth, in accordance with<br />

the formula <strong>of</strong> the census which shall have been set forth<br />

at Rome by him who at that time shall be about to take<br />

the census <strong>of</strong> the people.<br />

He shall see that all these data are entered in the public<br />

records <strong>of</strong> his municipality; and he shall send these reports<br />

to those who shall take the census at Rome,<br />

delegates whom the majority <strong>of</strong> the decurions or conscripti<br />

shall have elected by vote to be delegates and<br />

envoys for this purpose at the time when the matter was<br />

taken into consideration; and not less than sixty days<br />

before the day when those who take the census at Rome<br />

(whoever they may be)<br />

have completed the census <strong>of</strong> the<br />

people, he shall see to it that the delegates appear before<br />

them and present the reports <strong>of</strong> that municipium, colony,<br />

or prefecture; and the censor or whatever other magistrate<br />

shall take the census <strong>of</strong> the people, wdthin the next<br />

five days after the arrival <strong>of</strong> the delegates from that<br />

municipium, colony, or prefecture, shall receive in good<br />
