Upon the expiration <strong>of</strong> one year after the next Calends<br />

<strong>of</strong> January no one who is or shall be less than thirty years<br />

<strong>of</strong> age shall seek, accept, or hold the <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> duovir or<br />

quattuorvir or any other magistracy in a municipium,<br />

a colony, or a prefecture, unless he shall have served three<br />

reason <strong>of</strong> which he cannot properly be required to serve<br />

against his will. Nor shall any one whose occupation<br />

shall be that <strong>of</strong> a public crier or that <strong>of</strong> an undertaker's<br />

assistant or that <strong>of</strong> an undertaker,—so long as he shall<br />

be engaged in any <strong>of</strong> these occupations,—seek, accept,<br />

hold, or have the <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> duovir, or quattuorvir, or any<br />

other magistracy in a municipium, a colony, or a prefecture;<br />

nor shall he serve or give his vote as a councillor or<br />

a decurion or a conscriptus in that place. If any one<br />

<strong>of</strong> those who are mentioned above, shall have acted in<br />

contravention <strong>of</strong> these provisions, he shall be liable to<br />

pay to the people a fine <strong>of</strong> 50,000 sesterces; and who-
