sculptures of apparently <strong>the</strong> same orig<strong>in</strong> hav<strong>in</strong>g been found.<br />

To name <strong>the</strong> more important of <strong>the</strong>m, I mention those <strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> pass of Karabel between Sart (Sardis) and Smyrna (referred<br />

to above) as belong<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong> western part of Asia<br />

M<strong>in</strong>or; and those at Boghazkoi and Uyuk north of <strong>the</strong><br />

lower course of <strong>the</strong> Halys as com<strong>in</strong>g from <strong>the</strong> north;<br />

while<br />

between <strong>the</strong>se two districts <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> west and north we have<br />

examples from Beikoi (nor<strong>the</strong>ast of Afiun-Karahissar) and<br />

from Giaur-Kalesi (southwest of Angora). Besides <strong>the</strong>re<br />

and Anti-Taurus we have examples from Mar'ash and from<br />

Samsat on <strong>the</strong> Euphrates, from Izg<strong>in</strong> (west of Albistan),<br />

from<br />

Hittite Bowl from Babvlon<br />

Palanga and from Giirun, from Ordasu near Malatya<br />

(<strong>the</strong> ancient Melitene), and lastly from Birejik (north of<br />

Jerabis) on <strong>the</strong> east bank of <strong>the</strong> Euphrates. Of <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>scriptions<br />

known to have been discovered <strong>in</strong> regions different<br />

from where <strong>the</strong>y were orig<strong>in</strong>ally cut, by far <strong>the</strong> most important<br />

are <strong>the</strong> above-mentioned <strong>in</strong>scription<br />
