Progress after
the last meeting
T. Tsuboyama (KEK)
18 March 2009
Belle upgrade meeting

HPK DSSD production
At end of December 2009, Prof. Aihara
(Tokyo) has a discussion with HPK
semiconductor division people. Aihara is
organizing not only high-energy physics
groups but also Jaxa, ICRR and
APV25 purchase
After struggles, we find a way to pay
money from KEK to CERN directly. We paid
9.5 M yen for 4,000 chips. Detail report
from M. Friedl.

IR discussions
As M. Iwasaki calculated huge heat
from beam, a new IR design with
quadrupole magnets closer to the IP
was proposed by KEKB people. Now
low-emittance option is also
discussed.
Engineering discussion started
A KEK engineers team started a
serious discussion of Belle structure
design.

Super Beast
In the last meeting, I proposed NOT to
install DEPFET and SVD at T=0.
Gary Varner reminded me that we
need to consider a radiation monitor
system around the IR chamber, which
was called in KEKB in 1998 as Beast.
Haba san’s luxury.
Hara san
He moved from Osaka University to KEK.
His main job is to build the Super Belle
computer / software system.
We need his successors. Hara san will
help him/her. The job list is shown later.

Talk by Iwasaki
Purpose
Improve physics performance
Beam size measurement
Design should be done in parallel to the SVD design.
How about just extend the acceptance of the SVD.

Production schedule
Thomas’s chart (modified)in a previous meeting.
system test
3 years for sensor production with some spares.
Final ladder production will be done in 2013.
0.5-1 year system test before installation.
SVD and DEPFET installation should be done after we
understand background conditions, e.g., 0.5 years.

Production speed
100-150 DSSD per year * 3 years.
24 ladders per year * 3 years.
72 ladders installation in the last year.
DSSD production hopefully starts at end of 2009.
