Welcome to Alafia River State Park Alafia River State Park opened to the public in February 1998. The park consists of over 6,000 acres with approximately 12 miles of river bank along the South Prong Alafia River. The land was formerly used for phosphate mining and was donated to the State of Florida in 1996. As a relatively new addition to the Florida Park Service, Alafia River State Park offers some of Florida's unique recreational opportunities. The Park offers off road bicycling, horseback riding, hiking, fishing, camping, picnicking, birding, canoeing and kayaking. Horseback riders can enjoy approximately 20 miles of horse trails. The trails are well marked and weave around lakes, over hills and through wooded areas. Most of the horse trails are wide enough to accommodate buggies and carriages. The blue trail is a perimeter loop, the white trails run north and south, the green trails run east and west, and the yellow trails are peninsula loops. Overnight camping is also available for visitors and their equine friends. Many of the campsites include tie-out posts. Portable containment is also welcome in the tie-out areas. Daily Equestrian Fees: $6.00 - per horse, up to two horses - per day, plus tax $14.00 - per trailer - per day, plus tax Fees do not apply to holders of a Florida State Park Annual Pass. Annual Passes are available for purchase at the park‘s Ranger Station.
