Lavatory Waste Release Response Report March 19, 2013
Based on that observation and after discussions between EEC, Lisa Farinas and CDM Smith it was decided
to collect discharge samples for analysis of Escherichia coli (E. coli). At approximately 1:15pm, Mr. Ball was
directed to collect a sample of the discharge for laboratory analysis. Mr. Ball departed the site to obtain an
appropriate sample bottle from a nearby laboratory (TestAmerica). Upon returning to the area at
approximately 2:15pm, CDM Smith called again and requested two additional E. coli samples from two
downstream locations. Mr. Ball collected the first sample (identified as S1-13) from Outfall 13 (photo below)
at 2:25pm. Mr. Ball then returned to TestAmerica to drop off the first sample and pick up additional sample
bottles.
Mr. Ball arrived back onsite at approximately 3:30pm and collected two additional downstream samples
(identified as S2-13 and S3-13). Sample S2 was collected at 3:40pm approximately 150ft downstream of
Outfall 13 and Sample S3 was collected at 3:50pm approximately 500ft downstream of Outfall 13. Sample
collection locations are identified on the map below.
At approximately 4:00pm, Mr. Ball concluded the onsite investigation and dropped off samples S2 and S3 at
TestAmerica for analysis at approximately 4:45pm. These samples were tested using Standard Method
9223B. All three samples were positive for the presence of E. coli.
On Tuesday March 19, 2013 after receiving the results of the first analyses, EEC mobilized to collect three
additional samples from the outfall and slightly farther downstream to test for the quantity of E. coli.
