the responsible party does not take action or should the Fire Department direct,<br />

due to fire or safety hazards, Landside Maintenance will provide clean up<br />

services and the responsible party will be billed the greater of actual costs or a<br />

minimum of $300 for labor and materials.<br />

After fire and safety hazards are under control, and upon authorization from<br />

Command, release clean up crews will be allowed into the area. The crew shall<br />

have the necessary materials and/or equipment to restore the area to a state<br />

reasonably equivalent to its condition prior to the release.<br />

Only personnel that have completed their companies Fuel Spill Recovery and<br />

Clean Up training will respond to the spill site.<br />

Do not start, stop or move equipment in the spill area without permission from<br />

Command.<br />

Personnel protective equipment (PPE), as prescribed by Aviation Safety (Level D<br />

protection in accordance with 29CFR 1910.120), will be worn by all personnel<br />

involved in spill clean up. Level D PPE consists of a work uniform with long<br />

sleeve shirt and long pants or coveralls, gloves, chemical resistant shoes, safety<br />

glasses or goggles.<br />

All personnel and units shall remain upwind to avoid vapors from spilled fuel.<br />

Radios and cellular telephones are not to be used within 25 feet of the fuel spill.<br />

Clean up personnel will observe all directions from Command and the<br />

responding Fire Department personnel. Command and all Fire units shall have<br />

an uninterrupted view and access to the spill site.<br />

Aviation personnel shall provide clean up of spills only in areas that provide<br />

adequate open ventilation. Should a spill occur in a confined space or migrate to<br />

a confined space, clean up shall not proceed without first consulting with the<br />

Aviation Department <strong>Plan</strong>ning & Environmental, Environmental Section, Safety<br />

Officer and Fire Department personnel.<br />
