Ladies Powder Puff – Colleen<br />
Kelly was awarded the Tea Pot and a first<br />
place trophy for her A Division win in the<br />
2008 Ladies Powder Puff Championship<br />
sailed in Sunfishes. Second overall was<br />
Patti Mroczko and in third, Eleanor<br />
Kinzel. Fourth place went to Sandra Hollick.<br />
BBYRA – Planning has already<br />
started for the upcoming 2009 BBYRA<br />
Championship Series. Delegates and regatta<br />
representatives from all 14 member<br />
<strong>Smoke</strong> <strong>Signals</strong><br />
clubs have been meeting to plan next<br />
year’s racing season. No major scheduling<br />
changes are in the offing but a proposal<br />
has been floated to include a second<br />
afternoon race course. In terms of<br />
membership, any club that successfully<br />
signs up 90% or more of its members as<br />
contributing BBYRA members will have<br />
the club’s Membership Dues reduced<br />
from $200 to only $25 and all such club<br />
members will be deemed Contributing<br />
BBYRA Members eligible to participate<br />
in BBYRA events.<br />
Pumpkin Race – Thirteen teams<br />
braved the October chill to compete in<br />
the 2008 running of MRYC’s Pumpkin<br />
Race on October 12. With a second-place<br />
finish in the race and 45 pumpkin points,<br />
Kristen Gelenitis and Gillian Francis sailing<br />
a Lightning won the fall classic with a<br />
combined score of 105 points. Rick and<br />
Richard Pokorny finished second with 95<br />
points beating out Mitchell and Luke<br />
Hnatt, with some assistance from dad in<br />
the Lightning, on the tiebreaker despite<br />
their first place finish in the race.<br />

Thirty two Lightnings competed in the 2008 Frigid Digit Regatta hosted by the Severn Sailing Association on October<br />
18th - 19th. Jody Lutz, Bill Bogardus and Jim Carson sailed in the event.<br />
