Mermate
News
The Mermates are having a great summer.
We kicked it off with our Father’s Day
Brunch which was a huge success. We served
over 180 and do not believe anyone went home
hungry. Many thanks to all who helped, especially
our shopper, Karen Banias, prep cooks,
Colleen Van Pell, Chris Hudson, Caroline Skierski,
Lisa Brennan and Ann Doonan, and Sunday
cooks, Lisa & Don Brennan and Chris and
Eric Hudson. Fran Lynn gets an extra special
thanks for helping all three days. Many others
contributed their time to make this a very special
event, thank you so much.
As I am writing this many club members
are tuning up their acts for “Metedeconk’s
Got Talent”. Patty Mroczko has put in endless
hours on this and I’m sure it will be the most
entertaining night of the summer. Who will
win the coveted “Conk” award? I will report
the details next month.
The Mermates are also planning the
annual luncheon to be held August 10 at the
Club. This will be a fashion show and gift auc-
Smoke Signals
tion with a fabulous lunch
by those great cooks Fran
Lynn and Lisa Brennan.
Terri Cerrito has been
working with Tangerine
Boutique of Bay Head to
show us the latest fashions.
Reservations are a must, so
please contact Ann Doonan
for your reservation. Gift baskets will be
collected by Elaine Salto. This is a major
fund raiser for the Mermates, so we hope
to see you all there.
As I write this column, I thank so
many who contribute their time to the Mermates,
but there are many more who give
an hour here or there. Some collect money
at the door of functions, or help out at the
Ships Store, etc. Everyone who helps is
greatly appreciated by the Mermate Officers.
It is also interesting to note that
many who help us are also involved in
other areas of the club, such as Juniors or
Race Committee. This is a volunteer club
and by helping out you will find so much
value in your membership, not to mention
making great new friends. If you would
like to become more involved in the Mermates,
please contact me at frandockery@comcast.net.
