Camps provide wholesome<br />
recreation for all children<br />
including those with<br />
special needs. Campers<br />
thrive through athletic,<br />
recreational, cultural and<br />

Our fully integrated camps,<br />
including our Staten Island<br />
Water Park, <strong>of</strong>fer trained<br />
staff, a supportive environment<br />
and schedules that<br />
meet <strong>the</strong> needs <strong>of</strong> working<br />
parents. They provide<br />
respite for those caring<br />
for <strong>the</strong> developmentally<br />
challenged. In addition to<br />
day camping, our Putnam<br />
Valley facility also provides<br />
overnight camping for<br />
city children under <strong>the</strong><br />
auspices <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> St. Vincent<br />
DePaul Society.<br />
Feeding <strong>the</strong> Hungry<br />
and Sheltering <strong>the</strong><br />
Homeless<br />
Keeping families in <strong>the</strong>ir<br />
own homes: <strong>Catholic</strong><br />
<strong>Charities</strong> stands in <strong>the</strong><br />
forefront <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> New York<br />
City initiative to prevent<br />
homelessness before it<br />
happens. Drawing on a<br />
three-year grant from <strong>the</strong><br />
New York City Department<br />
abuse, childcare, vocational<br />
and educational programs.<br />

Families and<br />
Resolving Crises<br />
Mo<strong>the</strong>rs helping mo<strong>the</strong>rs:<br />
<strong>Catholic</strong> <strong>Charities</strong> launched<br />
Proyecto Madres—Project<br />
Mo<strong>the</strong>rs—four years ago<br />
to build a healthy community<br />
support network for<br />
Hispanic mo<strong>the</strong>rs and <strong>the</strong>ir<br />
children. The group meets<br />
monthly at St. Cecilia’s Church,<br />
a familiar location in East<br />
Harlem for immigrants<br />
seeking information, referrals<br />
and services. This initiative<br />
alleviates <strong>the</strong> isolation<br />
many immigrant mo<strong>the</strong>rs<br />
experience, replicating <strong>the</strong><br />
female kinship <strong>of</strong>ten left<br />
Clubhouse members work<br />
alongside staff in mutually<br />
planned vocational,<br />
educational and social<br />
activities to promote<br />
rehabilitation and skills<br />
development. Hundreds <strong>of</strong><br />
individuals in recovery have<br />
come here for help. They<br />
receive concrete mental<br />
health and social services<br />
that include <strong>the</strong> daily breakfasts<br />
and dinners that <strong>of</strong>ten<br />
might be overlooked from<br />
confusion or necessity<br />
by those suffering from<br />
mental health problems.<br />
